Sony PC stopped recognizing CD an DVD reply

by KenJKirkland - 1/21/09 2:32 AM In reply to: My PC stopped recognizing both my DVD and CD drives, help! by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

First recovery wiz mainly only bypasses registry errors by taking it back in time before error occured. ok Has anyone open case and fiddled w/ your hardware for you? if no; Have you went into Cmos? The first boot screen will give you opportunity by saying usally hit Del key for cmos or some systems its an F2, or one of those F keys. If answer is no try that and find the IDE drives area. Your hard drive will be listed there so if you know what HD you have you'll know your at the right spot. It won't be under advanced column. I'm sorry I can't see my cmos or I could be more precise. There where you find the HD there should be 3 IDE empty spots, and 2 are where your cd, and dvd used to be, or if there listed there then reboot on reboot see if you see the drives listed, if so its a software prob, and i'm a hardware man.If not listed w/ HD Have it to auto search because the manual is for experts and would have to be there. See if the auto search finds them. If not find you motherboard book and see if it has an option for auto cmos update, and what pins on the board will reset cmos. other word cmos loses memory, and resets it. There is a battery that looks simular to a coin thats easy to take out if there are no pins. PC must be shut down and unplugged for this cmos reset. This is last rsort if your a hardwar novice. I know this may be hard to take in the way I wrote this, so email me or however this stuff works, and I can answer questions individually.

by mystique811 - 1/21/09 2:58 PM In reply to: My PC stopped recognizing both my DVD and CD drives, help! by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

One possibility is that they have been damaged. If they are the you will need to send your computer to a technician and get them replaced.

My PC stopped recognizing both my DVD and CD drives, help!

by navanit_abhi - 1/21/09 9:25 PM In reply to: My PC stopped recognizing both my DVD and CD drives, help! by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

I think there is no motherboard problem. the dvd/cd is not running either due to faulty drive or some software . It might possible that the slot is not working. SO, to test you should consult a hardware engineer

same problem.. but...

by selayg90 - 1/22/09 9:02 PM In reply to: My PC stopped recognizing both my DVD and CD drives, help! by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

hai.. I have the same problem too, my NEC DVD writer on my dell optiplex also loss access to the dvd driver...

After i'm using windows restore point.. i found my computer becomes to normal..

Here, i found the was a problem with Itunes...
Thus, when you downloading this, never install Itunes, just install the player itself.(quicktime only..)

another problem is, when you using dvd burner, which is RecordNow! Plus, don't update or register it, just use it without any access to internet
(i' mean using a firewall to block the access permanently). fOR example, my dvd driver comes together when i bought dell computer, so, there would not be any interferer by having this..

Your DVD/CD E:drive is gone means your motherboard is shot

by Frederick Rothe III - 1/23/09 4:14 PM In reply to: My PC stopped recognizing both my DVD and CD drives, help! by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

I have the same problem with my Sony Vaio SZ-340. I filed a complaint with our attorney general's office in Albany to see if they (Sony) could be forced to fix the problem for free. The best our AG could do was get a free analysis;two weeks without my pc because it had to be shipped back to San Diego. $700 to fix the pc because the motherboard is defective;they only wanted to give 10% off the repair price. I was and still am outraged;I bought this pc on the recommendation of Consumer Reports,I have had problems with this pc from day one and feel I bought a defective pc. It was refurbished;regardless I paid $1,400 and the motherboard is shot after 18 months of use (less than that, because the e-drive disappeared last spring). And their online tech support put the nail in the coffin of this pc;no matter what I try,I cannot restore the e-drive. Your best bet is taking Sony to small claims court to force a settlement into repair your pc. If I had known this pc was defective,I would of bought a Service Plan. But,I still would be without a pc for a week or more, since you have to ship the pc back to San Diego. And once you have your own pc,to be without one is a great inconvience. I'm glad I can go to any local library and use their wi-fi,and know I can use their pc if I need to print a document, but to wait to go online,to get your e-mail (and some of the stuff I get is XXX)is terribly inconvient.

Media player not recognizing adminisrative rights

by xoltaros - 1/23/09 7:47 PM In reply to: My PC stopped recognizing both my DVD and CD drives, help! by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

DRM rights issue-I'd wager. All the troubles you just described are all present where DRM [digital rights management] is an issue. You can do the math yourself.Basically,go to microsoft downloads page and have them issue you new DRM rights. Unless I'm grossly wrong, this is your problem. Best regards:xoltaros.

Your pc & dvd stop working

by KenJKirkland - 1/23/09 11:40 PM In reply to: My PC stopped recognizing both my DVD and CD drives, help! by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

IDE cables don't fall out by their self...their very tightly seated, so tight that some are hard to plugin, unless someone did not seat it all the way in. Now; a few days ago I ask you among about 6 other things to reboot your sys. to see if you see them on bootup screen where it shows the size cpu,ram etc... .Unless Dell don't show nothing but a screen that says DELL. In that case reboot again, or first get your dell book to see what key to press for cmos. If you get info type boot screen it'll show all ide drivs including harddrive. If you see harddrive, but no cd&dvd listed then you'll need to go into cmos. your book will be at dells website if you lost yours and show the key and pic's of all cmos screens to find IDE's. Afterwards in cmos (or dell may call it setup) select empty drive space and do auto search...if it finds save and reboot and look again at boot screen if there. If so praise God!
If not:
Open left side of case after unplugging power cord look see if ribbon cables look connected if so check by grabbing very ends and try to wiggle gently w/out touch any metal on m-board, and do it on both ends. they will both likely be slaved together on one cable. now you know their tight remove cmos battery; it looks like a small silver coin. leave out 10 sec's re-insert, this will reset cmos. leave case open plugup power bootup and check screen and any respectable m-board will find all drives automatically if functioning. if not reboot go into you know where, and auto scan again, and if no deal either your cable went bad, or one of drives. Sometimes (rarely)if slaved (when 2 drives on 1 cable goes bad neither will show. So get another cable in case and distinguish which drive is master (it will be drive at end of cable)and unplug slave ribbon cable and power cable also. Plug power cord in and boot pc. if no drive unplug master drive and set pins on slave to be master and plugin ribbon (end slot of cable, and red stripe side by power cable) plug power cable to drive fire up pc.
If no still, it's possible both drives could be bad, but if you think that m-board ide slave slot is bad as some suggested borrow if possible a cdrom drive that was known to be working if possible and w/out attaching it to case leave outside an plug cables in to drive and m-board and boot up. If you doubt integrity of that drive slave its pins and attach to slave slot on harddrive cable. If it works then m- board is bad. For a novice I know this sounds to hard, but a PC tech this whole deal is 30 minute op. and $65 if no bad hardware. But on the net p-4 boards are cheap, and so are drives. But it's a good way to get experience, and maybe you can build your next. Hope the c-mos thing helps, good luck kenjkirkland@gmail.com

suggested solution to the problem PC stopped recognizing dvd

by hamzasuka - 1/26/09 5:27 AM In reply to: My PC stopped recognizing both my DVD and CD drives, help! by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

If you are not a hardware tech then i think you show start by
1. going to device manager on the my computer property.
2. right click on your pc name and then select scan for hardware.(posibly uninstalled components may notify you to be installed and make sure you have your drivers cd to load.
If this does not work....
Open to you cpu and check the ribbon cables connected to the two disk drives, if posible you try replacing it.
In case you do not have much knowledge on tech then you will need a tech help.
good luck

Your PC stopped recognizing both my DVD and CD drives

by aman_456 - 1/26/09 7:49 AM In reply to: My PC stopped recognizing both my DVD and CD drives, help! by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

There can be many reasons for your pc not recognizing your cd and DVD drives.
First check the power cable and the cable connecting the drive to the motherboard. if this is fine then check the drive firmware verson , if it is old then update it from the internet. Then open up the drive and clean it from inside but do not touch the lense. After cleaning the drive check it again and now if itstill dosnot work then may be thayour drive has become too old to be used and you must do away with it.

FIX - Failure to recognize CD and DVD drives

by METAUSTIN - 1/30/09 6:16 PM In reply to: My PC stopped recognizing both my DVD and CD drives, help! by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

Gary,
The easiest way to fix this problem is to goto your 'Control Panel', click on 'Performance and Maintenance', then 'System', then 'Hardware', then 'Device Manager'.

Find your drives and click on them to REMOVE them. The system will ask you if you are sure. Click on 'YES'. Re-boot the machine. Your CD and DVD drives should be found during the re-boot.

If they are not, you may have to seek professional assistance, but this way, nothing will be harmed with your system. Editing the Registry is a very dangerous thing to do unless you are very confident in what you are doing.

Good luck, sir!
