return to this forum just to update,

I received URC RFS200 PowerPak Bundle MasterControl RF20 and PowerBlaster form amazon, it works fine with dish. though this one do not have codes for This samsung TV or Dish but I trained buttons and it worked for all components. and for now i am going to ignore the inverter board change. i think it is matter of choice and i felt comfortable to change remote then changing the board.

thanks. see my original post for original problem

Samsung Tech Help was no help at all

by BMelton2 - 1/28/09 5:34 PM In reply to: Final thoughts on this issue by Samsung_HD_Tech Samsung staff

Two times I have talked with Techs at Samsung on the phone and via live chat. All they will do is direct me towards the Firm ware fix that they say will not work. Otherwise the best thing to do is turn my cable box at a 45 degree angle, blah blah blah. I tell them about this thread, others getting problem solved with new inverter cards and they say that is not an option. What am I supposed to do? I just spent over 2 grand on a TV that does not work as it should. I feel that I made the wrong choice in not getting the Sony.

Unfortunately I am stuck with this thing, is there anything you can do to help me?

Bill

This confirms one of my points

Samsung Tech Support is apparently poor (present company excluded)

What is so hard about putting the invertor board fix into the Tech Support database?

It is INEXCUSABLE for this customer to be treated this way.

How many thousands of OTHER customers who do not know about this forum are being told to upgrade their firmware and not being informed of the fix?

Samsung Telephone Support

by paddingtonbear - 1/29/09 4:59 AM In reply to: This confirms one of my points by jimzzzak

This is disturbing that the Samsung first line phone support remains unaware of the inverter board fix. I just ordered the 850 based on the availability of this hardware fix (if my set needs it). Should this turn out to be the new policy, my set will be returned immediately. Here's hoping this is just a poorly trained first line support person - which obviously adds to your comment for updating the support data base.

I will personally assist if necessary.

Please let me know when your set arrives and if I can be of service.

Be persistant!!

by mm2hansen - 1/29/09 7:19 AM In reply to: Samsung Tech Help was no help at all by BMelton2

I understand your frustration. I took me three times before I finally talked with someone who admitted that they couldnt help me and sent me to the next step. Once there, I received a ticket number and within 24 hours had talked with a local service tech. After explaining the problem to him, he insisted it was a problem with my Dish receiver. And I insisted right back that he get on this forum and do some research himself, like I did. I gave him the part numbers for the boards and he said he would research it. Another 24 hours and I had my appointment to have the boards changed. They showed up last night with boards in hand. After all this the tech they sent out still insisted it was the Dish receiver. At this point I was getting a little pissed off. I showed him how the receiver was not functioning. I told him he is here with the boards, just change them and lets see what happens. He did, and it worked like a champ. " Well I'll be damned" were his exacts words. Then he wants the name of the forum where I found this info. Anyway, the tv works great now. I've read in here concerns about picture degregation. I have experienced none. In fact my wife thinks the picture looks better. And I'm not going to argue with her about that!!

Got a Ticket no.

HDTech,

Ok I called Samsung like you suggested and told them about the IR issue, menu lag and backlight bleed(white spots in all 4 corners and a large irregularly shaped cloud bottom right center when screen dark...not discussed on this forum)and got a ticket no. 4003108566. I'll let you know how it goes. If you ever find anything about the menu lag ,please let me know.

Thanks,
wgapel

Nisi called

by wgapel - 1/29/09 3:19 PM In reply to: Got a Ticket no. by wgapel

What a nightmare initially. The women who called me to schedule an appointment was so incompetent my head was about to explode. She insisted my Sony receiver and cambridge cd player were not components and replacing the inverter boards have nothing to do with my problem. She said I need a new board where the component wires plug in to the back of my Tv. She refused to help me after disagreeing adamantly with her and said I should go elsewhere(15 minutes of arguing). Just before I hung up a tech guy came on the phone and in 1 minute he said I know exactly what your talking about. NIGHT and DAY... sheesh. He's ordering the boards. I hope he has a fix for my menu lag, probably none for the backlight bleed or flashlight effect.

Menu Lag

by Samsung_HD_Tech Samsung staff - 2/1/09 8:33 PM In reply to: Nisi called by wgapel

wgapel,

One of the techs did note that the menu lag was part of the issue. I don't have a confirmation on that, but let me know. I'm following this issue as well.

boards replaced

by wgapel - 2/7/09 11:03 AM In reply to: Excellent! by Samsung_HD_Tech Samsung staff

HDTech,

Ok the boards were replaced and I no longer have the IR problem. Great! But.... The menu problem did not go away...almost seems worse. Last night took 3 minutes just to change inputs. I also seem to have an additional cloud. But that could be because I had to make new picture settings(specifically drop the brightness...the more you drop the backlight and turn up the brightness the less evident the clouds and backlight bleed are evident).
The tech guy insisted he had to change one setting in the service menu from 225 to 175 because that is how the board is designed to run. I think it may have been the max dim setting like some on this board spoke of(not 100% sure). After he left when making picture adjustments I noticed the black level was difficult to get back to original settings. I actually had to drop the brightness 6 points from what i had it before and change black adjust and dynamic contrast to low when they were off before the board change. The picture seems as good as ever now but the clouds and backlight bleed are more evident now because of my new settins to get black level back.

It seems i have firmware version 1002.
I would really like a fix for this menu lag without going to 1004
i guess I'll have to live with the clouds and bleed because its not bad enough to warrant a panel replacement(i'm sure thats what I'll be told) but I'm not happy with that either!

Any help HDTech?

Firmware

by Samsung_HD_Tech Samsung staff - 2/7/09 7:42 PM In reply to: boards replaced by wgapel

Interestingly enough, despite the manual change of firmware by the technician, I believe the service menu is reset (reloaded) when you upgrade.

So what happens is that if you're not happy with your current settings, you might try to upgrade - knock out those settings - and start with a whole new firmware picture default. Does that make sense? I'm not sure what I'd recommend, but let's discuss.

As far as the menu response, I'll check into that. Again, I have very limited feedback regarding that, so I'll see if we know anything from our data gurus.

Slow Menu

by Samsung_HD_Tech Samsung staff - 2/9/09 11:38 AM In reply to: boards replaced by wgapel

It seems that the slow menu may be a different issue altogether. I would recommend calling a seperate service ticket in for them. I was hoping that this was part of the IR issue, but based on the feedback I receive here, that doesn't seem to be the case.

I would have the television on for a while so that you can give an example to the tech when he shows up. I'm sorry this didn't fix your problem, but it's something we can address.

Keep me posted.
