Having trouble finishing the download.

by i8246i - 1/21/09 12:43 PM

I've tried a few times to download the beta from microsoft, but the downloader gets stuck at 99% and will not complete!

I am using a fully up-to-date Windows XP machine with the latest patches for Internet Explorer.

Anyone else having the same problem, and have you fixed it? If so, how?

Dead link

That tinyurl doesn't work. THUS.

When it's at 99% the computer needs to basically transfer everything to your hard drive so it's ready for use. Wait a few seconds/minutes (depending on the speed of your computer).

maybe

That's what I was originally thinking: maybe it’s just transferring some large chunk of data to the drive. I noticed that there was no hard drive activity, no "copying file" notification window....nothing that would indicate any sort of file transfer. And the status of the downloader said "connecting" when it gets to this point....I think I might have some other, more serious problem.

I've let it sit in this state for about 15-20 minutes and nothing happens. Maybe I'll redownload it one more time and let it set for about a day or so, just to make sure it’s not something simpler.

sorry

Should have said "I'll do all this when I get home from work"

also should have said "The download takes about 10 hours to complete".

So you won't have an update for at least another 12-13 hours, as the download is only 41% complete from when I started it at 7pm CST.

After I let it run overnight, it finished properly this time.

I guess we can call this closed, as I am installing it to my laptop right now.
