Does anyone have their finger in this industry close enough to explain the phenomena that the MSRP for this Blu-Ray is $299.99, it was discounted heavily in early & mid-December, but it is not going to up to $150 over it MSRP? I made a decision to buy (after all the sales of course), but I refuse to pay what sellers are asking for it right now. Does anyone expect the price to go down before the next model year is rolled out? It is rare to find any seller who is selling it at MSRP, nevermind lower. I'm also disappointed that CNET hasn't got more to say about things like this--seems that mums the word!
Two days ago I bought the Panny DMP-BD35 at Costco for $279, which included an HDMI cable and of course, they double the Mfg's warranty. I'm at work so I don't remember if the Costco model had the "K" designation. I've been playing around with this player for a few days now. What do you need to know?
Unfortunately, there are no Cosco's near where I live in RI. The "K" designation is important, since it indicates that it includes the Fall 2008 upgrade, which improve some of the video performance. Read CNET review for more. I just want to purchase at less than MSRP (including tax & shipping). The cheaper the better of course. $279 isn't bad, but it was going for about $239 in early Dec, including 6 Blu-Ray DVDs. Seems that will not reoccur. I also do not need an HDMI cable. (Tip: The best performing and also probably the lowest cost HDMI cable is available from Blue Jeans Cable [www.bluejeanscable.com]. They also have extensive technical writeups on HDMI and HDMI cable that you can read. I'm an engineer, so I found it super helpful and they know their stuff. Others, less technically oriented, may have a harder time comprehending some of it.)
Panasonic has already announced the next batch of BR players that will replace the BD35/BD55 so as the date approached for the new models to be released you should see the price on the BD35K go down.
I remember seeing that my Panny BD35 was manufactured in Nov 2008, and according to the Panny website, my unit has the latest firmware. As far as HDMI cables go, I needed one, but I didn't need any more BD discs as I received a handful when I bought my PS3 and I've purchased many since. Yeah, the Costco price can be beat, but I needed the HDMI cable and they extend the warranty to 2 years, so that's a huge bonus.
can you link and paste please? thanks.
FW is always available, and so there is no issue as far as not being up to date. easy to do.
blue jeans is a good company. i simply by monoprice because they are even cheaper.
If you need a bdp right now, and you can actually find it, bd35 is the one to get, less the divx and mch analogs of the 55. The only knock I can possibly think of, and I do mean "only", is that it cannot force dvd output at 480i for the use of outboard vp.
if you can wait a while longer, just buy the newer players to come out from Pana. They will be less money, most likely, as that's how it's been so far historically...
I bought it at Costco last 1/09/009 for $279.99 less $50.00 costco coupon....total of $239.99 plus tax. I loved it!!!!
