I am trying to install Windows 7 beta on a partition. But when ever i enter the Disk Management app. and i try to shrink the volume of my C drive, it says i do not have any space to create a partition. Is there anyone who can help me?
with a basic volume.
What you need is a third party non-destructive partitioner such as the commercial Partition Commander (avanquest) or partition Magic (Symantec) or the free GPARTED (Linux based bootable CD).
Once you have the proper utility you can resize the parrtition.
Whether the specific partitioning utility suggests it or not, I always recommend that BEFORE using it you perform a CHKDSK /F and after that a complete DEFRAG - then go ahead and alter and create partitions to your heart's content.
All this of course pre-supposes that you have already backed up all your data and drivers for the unlikely but possible catastrophy. For drivers, if your system came with recovery media or a recovery partition you can use that to restore in event of catastrophy. If you system only came with Installation software and/or you have added or changed peripherals (video cards, NICs, modems, etc.) then a handy utility to have is Driver Genius http://www.driver-soft.com/
We can delete that one and let you try again.
