keep in mind I'm talking about using an external dvd burner hooked up to my iBook.
I have Toaster 6 Lite along with Popcorn on my G4 1.2 ghz iBook running OS 10.4.8 and have the iLife 05 package.
Do I drag and drop using the burning utilities or does iPhoto have a back up feature that I have missed reading about.
As always... thanks for any help. ![]()

You can get it with a .Mac account.
Go for the free trial period and you get to keep Backup even if you do not renew.
Or,
Just drag the iPhoto library from your Pictures folder and drop it onto a DVD
P
In the past I have dragged parts of the iPhoto library onto CD-Rs for back up purposes. I was just not sure if that was the approved way of doing things or if there was a method built into the program that I was unaware of. Now that I have the DVD burner, I am re-burning pics by complete year for convenience sake... getting rid of the 3 and 4 CR-Ds that were previously required (on average - I have about 2 1/2 thousand pics per year to archive for family and friends).
thanks again!

There is a tutorial from Apple on how to backup to CD or DVD that can be found here: http://www.apple.com/ilife/tutorials/iphoto/ip4-8.html
I have switched from burning to using online backup. The service that I use is BackupRight - http://www.backupright.com/ and I just select my iPhoto library and have it backed up nightly.
nice link... very informative.

Here's a link how make your iPhoto Library safer using Western Digital Mybook studio 2
http://www.machoe.com/tutorials/how-to-keep-your-iphoto-library-safe-mac/
Take a look at 24x7digital's PhotoCopy (http://www.24x7digital.com/photocopy) which will let you backup your iPhoto library to a Flickr Pro account.
I have an external HD thru my AirPort Extreme Base Station that uses Time Machine to do the backups. This will provide you with a "dynamic" library that will create hourly backups. If you use DVD's or CD's you will have to run frequent backups to ensure recent photos are backed up. Leopard has Time Machine built in so might as well use it and not worry about having to schedule manual backups.
The quick and easy way I backup is simply by copying the whole of my "Pictures" folder to an external hard drive. It might not be the most automated system but it is simple and effective.
