(1) System info: Windows Vista Home Basic 6.0.6001 SP 1.0. AMD Athlon 64X2 Dual Core Processor 4000+. Seagate Baracuda 160GB HDD SATA. Kaspersky Internet Security 2009.
(2) CheckDisk result Ok. No Virus or security issues. Windows Updates are up to date.
(3) HDD 1st Partition is of 120GB but system shows 114GB which is non-issue. Out of this 114GB, System has used up 66GB (Program Files 11GB + Windows 3GB + Users 52GB + other folders few MBs). Therefore, 48GB (114-66) should be Free Space but system shows only 14GB. Wonder, where have I lost remaining 34GB?
Where? We have a discussion about that at http://forums.cnet.com/5208-12546_102-0.html?forumID=133&threadID=238817&messageID=2491799&tag=forums06;posts#2491799 which covers all the usuals.
(4) Recycle Bin Empty`(hence no space used)
(5) Self-built computer (hence no Rescue and Recovery Automatic Backup space used as may happen to IBM or Lenovo PCs)
(6) Vista Clean Instal after formating HDD fully (hence no windows.Old folder)
Somehow that sounds fishy, I have a hell of a time getting vista down to 5gb.
Anywhoe if you really want to find out what is eating all that space then try this: http://windirstat.info/
That program will scan your HDD and then display for you exactly what is on it and how much space it takes up. Hope its helpful.
Thanks.
I downloaded wds_current_setup.exe on my desktop using FlashGet.
The downloaded file showed a different name downloading.php
As I clicked at it I got a message that Windows cannot open it.
