Quick fix

by Irishbri - 9/24/08 7:45 PM In reply to: Verizon LG VX6100 phone stuck in "CAR KIT" MODE- BEWARE by Michele063

My phone was exposed to a small amount of water that was in my cup holder. (I sometimes put the phone there while its charging.) I got the "Car Kit" indicator and though I could make calls, no one could hear me nor could I hear myself through the mic.

As a result of this thread, I simply took the battery our and wiped it and the phone down thoroughly. I removed the screws to see if I could spot any any moisture inside, but I had trouble getting the phone "open" even after removing them. I decided to try putting the battery back in. When I did and turned the phone on, it was out of Car Kit mode and I could be heard again.

I'm sure this is a matter of degree.....i.e. small amount of water introduced to the battery compartment + thorough drying = quick fix.

Your results may vary, but its worth a try.

i see im not the only one who has had this happen..what is this??? i am about to go crazy.. i dropped the phone in the shower, so im sure that the impact and wetness are key elements in why this "car kit" thing has happened. i have no duster..and i have no access to a new battery at this time.. i tried the knife thing..and nothing changed.. im really not sure what im going to do except just be patient and hope it fixes itself..lol

Verizon LG 8200 Phone...Car Kit

by PJinNH - 1/3/09 1:56 PM In reply to: lg ax390 in car kit mode by baglady419

Well my phone went into the dreadful Car Kit mode the other day. I tried the aluminum foil, resetting the security, didn't work. I was leary to put a knife into the slot (all those warnings growing up about putting things in outlets I guess stuck in my mind).

Took the phone into Verizon today (after an online call which they informed me they couldn't do anything and to take it in and that the tech should be able to fix the problem). The Tech at Verizon Wireless just looked at the phone. Confirmed that it wasn't due to moisture and pronounced the phone damaged with my only option to spend $50 for a replacement phone or buy a new phone.

I wasn't happy that the tech didn't even attempt to reset the phone, etc. Went home without ordering a replacement phone, etc., figuring we could use an older cell phone we had at home. Last ditch effort I got out the butterknife. Wiggled it around a bit and PRESTO it worked (and as of this time a couple hours later it's still working -- fingers crossed). I am so mad a Verizon Wireless right now it isn't funny. I see this as a scam to get you to purchase a new phone through them!

Unbelievable

IT WORKS!!! The ol' knife in the charger slot Agent 99! Thought the car kit problem had to do with an evil Garmin Nuvi in my car slowly taking control of first my phone, then my life. After looking in the sky and not seeing Dr. Evil's Big Boy-mobile anywhere, I decided to read blogs about 'car kit cell phone troubles.' Turns out sticking a knife in charger slot works in about 2 seconds. Unbelievable.
