I have a new HP m9402f computer, and I want to upgrade the graphics. I am looking at the ATI 4850 as a reasonable model, but I see the 4850 recommends a 450W power supply. The issue is the m9402f has a 300W power supply.
System Specs:
AMD Phenom 2.30GHz
Level 2 cache 2MB
Level 3 cache 2MB
Memory RAM 7GB
Memory type (RAM) 800MHz DDR2 SDRAM (PC2-6400)
Hard drive size: 640GB
Questions follow:
Can the HP power the 4850? If so, are there any downsides like slower performance based on less available power?
If the 4850 is not recommended, what other cards can provide similar results with a 300W PSU? Any?
If none, is the answer to also buy a PSU? If so, what W-age would you recommend?
I also had an issue with the 300watt PS on my HP computer and a 8800GT video card which recommended at least a 400Watt PS.
I found the best thing was just to upgrade my PS to a Antec EA500 500watt ATX. I paid $79.99 for it.
It fits right in with no hassle.
upgrade your power supply i you want a fast video card.
