Hey guys, I know variations of this question are listed throughout, but, pretty new to the game, and trying to get the best results, i'm trying to understand this a bit more. I have a great TV (Panasonic PZ-800U) with THX picture certification and an awesome blu-ray player (Samsung 2500) with a fantastic upconverter chip for DVD's...and, no more money for the super high-end receivers. It seems to me what you often lose with the cheaper models (say the Onkyo TX-SR705) is upconverting quality. So, if i put the HDMI's directly into the tv and the opticals directly into the receiver, why is that better than putting everything into the TV and running a digital out to the receiver. Also, I thought that when you ran an HDMI cable out to the TV you couldn't also simultaneously run digital out to the receiver, but I guess that's wrong. ADVISE if you can or link me to some good sources. Thanks alot.
I never understood why someone would want to always run the amp. For watching the news.
My HD satellite HDMI goes to my Sony SXRD, and the optical output from the satellite goes to my Denon. I can watch and LISTEN without turning on my 5.1 for the news or junk TV.
Same setup for my Samsung DVD player.
Now!
I bought a PS3 a few months back. Got it set up and found out that the digital audio was output on either the HDMI or optical, not both. Took it back.
