Use A CD Burner Program..

by Grif Thomas Moderator - 11/22/08 8:33 PM In reply to: burn cd by bob per

Obviously, if you don't have a "burner" drive, then you can't burn a CD. (You'll need to purchase and install a burner drive.) But if your CD drive is a "burner" and you have a CD burning program on the computer, such as Roxio, Nero, or even the free CDBrunerXP program at the link below, the original disc is placed in the drive, the program rips the data from the CD and it's copied to the hard drive temporarily.. When you place a blank disc in the burner, the program copies the data from the hard drive to the blank disc.. Like magic, a copy of the original.

Hope this helps.

Buying a new computer

by astephy - 12/21/08 10:29 AM In reply to: Getting a new computer? Already have one? by TONI H

Good morning

I will be buying soon, however, as you well know, there are so many options that it is hard to know what you need.
I wouldf like to ask for a bit of assistance. I live in a small town, Wall-Mart is our big store, we do have a radio shack ( small ) and a Staples. I feel that my best resource is the Staples store but would appreciate some help in deciding what to buy.
1, I would like to be able to do some basic gaming " mostly for the grandchildren "
2, I would like to be able to do some basic picture re-work
3, I do quite a bit of surfing
4, I would like to be able to go on-line and watch a few of the tv chanels that are not available on our cable vision.
5, I would like to be able to use a office program, such as microsoft office or ?.

Can you please advise me on what I need for a hard drivem Ram, video card etc.
As well as anything spacific that I require in order to run my computer as a extra tv set . Not that I want this to be the family tv, just that I would like to be able to tune in to some, such as fast money or some of the other financial programs, preferably live.

Thank You

Al

To view TV: ...

by Kees Bakker Moderator - 12/21/08 10:44 AM In reply to: Buying a new computer by astephy

If it's on your cable in analog, you'll need a splitter and a TV tuner card. If it's digital (cable, over the air or satellite), you'll need a digital TV tuner card.
If it's only on the Internet, you'll need a broadband connection.

All other things you mention are standard. Nothing special. Any basic modern PC would do.

Just come back for advice on what Staples offers you.

Here is what I think..

by grabacon9 - 12/22/08 7:09 AM In reply to: Buying a new computer by astephy

1. Most Computers have video cards for basic games.
2. Photo Filtre, Paint.net, The Gimp are excellent freeware programs for photos.
3. Firefox is highly recommended instead of Internet Explorer for a safer experience.
4. TV 2.2 is best for channels not on your cable.
5. If your computer doesn't come with a free office suite, I highly recommend Open Office 3.0

You can save documents as PDFs and save files as Microsoft Office documents. You get a very similar alternative to Power Point, Word, Exel, etc.

Anyone Please Help

by mwnichy1 - 2/6/09 11:14 AM In reply to: Here is what I think.. by grabacon9

I am new to this forum and people seem to know what they are talking about. I have a Sony Vaio PCG-8Y1L, and I came home one day and turned it on and the Vista will not load. I have tried to open in safe mode but it runs to the /windows/system32/drivers/crcdisk.sys and it will not run any further, I have waited for hours with no results. Please let me know what to do to fix this problem, or what forun I need to use. I would really appreciate your help. Thanks, Michael

my disk drive

by lordxythre - 1/4/09 2:06 PM In reply to: Getting a new computer? already have one? by hpbob

I'm looking into getting Windows XP on my comp. I currently have windows vista, but being a gamer I find its performance terrible.

I have heard from several of my friends, some of which have built their own personal comps, that some companies disable(or whatever the correct word is) certain formats such at ntfs on their hard drives. If this is true how could i find out if my hard drive has this problem?

The model of my hard drive is Hitachi HDT725032VLA380 ATA Device, incase this helps.

Glad I saw your post. It reminded me that I need the backup disc for my new computer. I recently purchased a 64 bit Gateway FX--really like it.
Take a look at the following link. Dude wasn't too happy with his computer:
