by Steve16 - 9/11/08 1:39 PM

Acer Aspire One or Dell Mini 9 Inspiron?

Which one would you pick and why?

Niether today.

Not much use today for something so limited. Today I have my Palm TX for connecting to the internet in seconds at wifi spots and a full size laptop for work. This model doesn't fill any niche for me.

Time passes and the models get better.

While I still carry my Palm TX for internet where it is access, Last month I bought the ....

Acer Aspire One (with the 160GB drive)

A Logitech V450 Nano mouse and a nano bluetooth adapter later and it's quite the complete machine. Its speed reminds me of my older Pentium 3 laptop but that was very good so maybe it's as fast as other people's non-optimized laptops.

If you need a laptop but don't have the bucks, this could be your laptop.

NetBook

For the price of a netbook you can buy a used X series Thinkpad laptop and have a real laptop. X40 and up should do the job well.

Acer Aspire One

I really recommend the Acer Aspire One! It's got all the features you could want except a 250gb hard drive!

Acer all the way!

I'm really enjoying my Acer Aspire One so far

by punterjoe - 11/17/08 1:00 PM In reply to: Netbook Question by Steve16

This is the version with the 6-Cell battery, & WinXP with 1Gb RAM & 160GB HDD. It exceeded my expectations for performance and battery life. My only gripe is the anemic documentation. I'm one of those dorks who actually likes reading the manual. Most of what I learned about this netbook was from reading other people's reviews & ACER press releases. For $400 it's a lot of machine. I will admit I'm stripping a lot of the bloatware from it - I can't imagine using Windows Movie Maker on a netbook, even if it does come standard with XP Home. With careful pruning & tuning of XP and replacing some standard apps with leaner equivalents, this little netbook can scream! People I've shown it to seem impressed.
I only wish the WiMax version was out. I'm in a XOHM future-rollout area (the network is already up - it's just not open). WiMax would make this netbook even more useful.

I just got one with 3G, a 2-year AT&T, at Radio Shack for $99+tax..... So far it works great for a less than letter sized netbook/laptop. Couldn't believe how the squeezed a 160GB, 3 USBs, 2-SD's, an ethernet, and video all in this thing! Gotta Luv-It!

which to pick?

I went for the Acer. If you hurry, you could get one this last day at Radio Shack for $99+tax, 2-yr AT&T 3G.... That should turn your head a little!
