Hi,
We have a computer with vista and geforce 8800gts. When my son plays one of his games "kartrider" he gets a display message error saying something to do with nvlddmkm and that it has recovered.
Yet he cant play the game without this happening.
Help please
First, disable Aero which uses up a lot of resources.
Next, make sure you have the newest graphics drivers for your card.
You may also need to enable "Compatiblity mode" (maybe for Windows 2000 or 98) for the game to get it to run correctly.
Hope this helps.

Griff's response is pretty much on the money.
Here is a link where you can read a bit more about it and it has a direct link to the latest drivers for Vista which is -
ForceWare Release 100
Version: 100.65
Release Date: February 20, 2007
WHQL Driver
http://i.nconspicuo.us/2007/03/28/nvidia-nvlddmkm-vista-driver-fix-here-is-the-solution/
This what I found on another site. What do you think???...and the last bit about the expansion can I copy the whole file from that screen? Somemore instructions would help, thanks
"I have found and fixed the problem today. This is what appears to happen.
during the installation of the most current drivers 100.65 Vista, an OLD file
nvlddmkm.sys is copied into windows/system32/drivers and not the current one
in the install. As a result the new drivers are attempting to access a file
dated 11/2006 instead of 2/2007 ver 7.15.11.0065 which is in the newest WHQL
driver ver 100.65 vista 32.
Fix: Go to windows/system32/drivers and rename nvlddmkm.sys to
nvlddmkm.sys.old. Go to the nvidia directory and find the file nvlddmkm.sy_
and copy it to windows/system32. Using the cmd window (DOS box) type
EXPAND.EXE nvlddmkm.sy_ nvlddmkm.sys. When the expansion is complete, copy
the new nvlddmkm.sys to windows/system32/drivers and restart the computer.
Your computer should now work properly.
You will notice that any uninstall and reinstall of nvidia drivers will not
remove the old nvlddmkm.sys file and will not overwrite it with the newer
version. You have to do it manually. I do not know why this happens but who
cares as long it is fixed."
Hi,
I was at a computer store with a different issue and this subject came out.The tech guy said try installing directx 9, I have 10. He said they both can work fine so I installed 9 and the game runs fine without the display error.
thanks for all the help
This is a common problem with nVIDIA drivers. Every time I download a new display driver, I receive fewer of those error messages. Don't worry, I've a 8800GTS also and in the past, when that message comes up, it crashes the whole computer so you should be ok. I highly recommend the 169.04 drivers. They allow my computer to run graphics intense games (Halo 2, Crysis Demo, etc.) without a lot of stuttering.
I get this error when the screen goes black and it has a little yellow triangle with ! in it in the lower right corner saying...
Display driver stopped responding and has recovered
Dsplay driver nvlddmkm stopped responding and has successfully
recovered.
When I changed the game to 60Hz instead of 75 Hz, it doesn't do this anymore.
Installed the latest graphics for your graphics card?
If you're using a LCD screen, are you sure the 75 Hertz setting is supported for the resolution you're using? (If you've UNCHECKED the box next to "Hide modes that his monitor can not display" in your Display/Settings/Advanced/Monitor section, then you may "see" the 75 Hertz but it may not be supported fully.)
Hope this helps.

Not sure how to get where you said to go with the check-box, but in the NVIDIA Control Panel, it says 60 Hz.

What are you saying is happening? The card tries to do a 75Hz for the game but eventually “runs into an error” trying to refresh and LCD monitor (vs a CRT)?
..therefore, running it at 75 Hertz eventually causes an issue.. You'll want to check various resolutions because some monitors will support both 75 and 60 hertz BIT ONLY at specific resolutions. For example, a lower screen resolution may support the increased refreshed rate but it may not be the best for the game. .
It's completely possible that 60 hertz will be your best option for the resolution you want.
Hope this helps.

And my driver is 7.15.11.7813 (9/17/2008).
