MP3 Player

by JeffDeWitt - 12/12/08 7:26 PM In reply to: Poll: Do you have an MP3 player? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

I've got a 4GB Creative Zen and am quite happy with it. It's a neat looking little player but isn't too small, has a good screen, is Audible Ready and does everything I want it to do.

Plus it's not an iPod... iPods are just too common.

I also have a 4GB Creative Zen and i agree it is one of the best MP3 players around. I love its high resolution screen and the option to increase memory through SD or HDSD. Simply THE BEST

Creative Zen 4GB that I bought last Christmas. Lets just say I wish I had gotten the extra 3 year waranty.

Now I have a Zune 120Gb with the Gears of War Crimson Skull on the back and am very pleased with Microsoft's Ipod alternative

Yes I had an iPod

by 7aji88 - 12/12/08 7:41 PM In reply to: Poll: Do you have an MP3 player? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

I bought a first generation iPod nano when they first came out. Its click wheel broke down three months ago, but I'm using my Blackberry for playing mp3 now (it saves me from caring another gadget in my pocket)
Anyway, I think for buying mp3 player for someone, an iPod nano will do it. They got cheaper now, and they are cheaper than the bigger iPod and for kids they would be better. I know that there are other better players in others opinion, but iPod has the "cool" factor, so it's safer for presents.

New ipod charger warning

by Hodgelett - 1/17/09 6:33 AM In reply to: Yes I had an iPod by 7aji88

I have a 4G nano and just bought it a mains/in-car charger. Incompatible. Doing some research it turns out that the 4G nano and a couple of the other new ipods cannot be used with any charger except the computer one. This is fine unless you are going on holiday for an extended period or want to use speakers.

SanDisk Sansa here

by rbsjrx - 12/12/08 7:46 PM In reply to: Poll: Do you have an MP3 player? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

It works well and was significantly less expensive than my daughter's and granddaughter's iPods. It's an older 4GB model, but a mini SD card fixed that. I use it for music, audio recording, and photos - no videos. It also has a built-in FM radio, but I never use it. On a vacation this past year, we used it in a rented van with a combination recharger/FM radio interface designed for an iPod.

I have a huge collection of MP3s on my computer (all legal!) and ease of transferring them was a prerequisite. I've found it to be at least as capable as players from Apple or Microsoft, but without the price premium.

Yes, I have an IPOD Killer

by veganmark - 12/12/08 7:48 PM In reply to: Poll: Do you have an MP3 player? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

Yes, I have an ipod killer. It's called the Samsung P2 8GB. It totally rawks and the sound quality is excellent. I have it paired with a good pair of shure headphones. Also, it has bluetooth and is paired with my cell phone. I can actually leave the phone in my pocket and call a person from the address book on my player and never have to take the phone out of my pocket. Also, videos are crisp and clean. Only thing I wish is that Samsung would get on the ball and partner with some powerhouse manufacturers to make accessories for this great player. It's slick, thin, black and has one of the most beautiful widescreen displays available to an mp3 player. Ooh, and Samsung is releasing a 16GB version of this same player soon. How cool is that?

MP3 Owner

by amyuni - 12/12/08 8:20 PM In reply to: Poll: Do you have an MP3 player? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

I have a Classic IPOD. It has 30gigabytes storage. It will run photos and videos as well as music. It cost about $250. My is about 3 years old and I know some of the newer versions of IPOD are not that expensive even though you won't get as much storage, you will get more technology with the newer ones.

4G iPod nano 16GB

by MikeRacer - 12/12/08 8:36 PM In reply to: Poll: Do you have an MP3 player? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

I got the 16GB iPod nano and i love it. 2 inch screen, .25" thick, plays music, videos, games, and pictures, and is environmentally friendly because of its aluminium enclosure and arsenic-free glass. also have touch 16GB, which i also extremely love, and a 80GB classic, which was my first iPod.

Yes

by ktreb - 12/12/08 8:36 PM In reply to: Poll: Do you have an MP3 player? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

Yes, but I have several iPods and a few non-iPods

In order of purchase and still own:

1. iPod Mini 2nd Generation - still works, but rarely use it (used it in my dock until I got the Touch). Got it because of the improved price point ($200 for 4GB) and relatively large memory, which was why I liked it. Before that I had purchased 2 Rio Players (S10 and Cali - I don't have them anymore) that were around $100 each that had no more than 256 mb of memory. SD cards were still kind of expensive for relatively little memory.

2. iPod Shuffle 1st Gen - it was my "mug me" iPod. Simple to use in the gym.

3. iPod 5.5 Gen - because of video capability/capacity at a decent pricepoint.

4. 2nd Gen Nano - liked it because of Nike+

5. iPod Shuffle 2nd Gen - the new "mug me" iPod. Simple to use in the gym.

6. SanDisk Sansa Express - it was an impulse purchase, bought at a cheap price. $35 for 1GB. It works with Rhapsody To Go (wish Apple had a subscription service) FM radio a plus for the gym.

7. Creative Zen Stone - low price point was what attracted me. The music playback order drove me nuts.

8.iPod Touch 1G - love the bigger screen and works with most of my docking accessories. Wifi great in a pinch. Addition of the 2.0 software for $10 instead of $20 for the Jan 2008 update greatly increased my enjoyment with the apps. Love the Pandora app!

9. SanDisk Sansa Clip - got at an awesome price at the time ($35 for 2GB Black Friday 2007) and fully compatible with Rhapsody To Go (inc. Rhapsody Channels)

10. iPod Touch 2G - definitely the lower price point attracted me. I bought the 16GB for the same price as the 8GB I bought the year before. I also like the Nike+ compatability. My ears think that it sounds better than the 1G.

11. Sony E436 - I like the sound quality of Sony products. (I bought the NWZ-A816 6 months before but gave it to my brother when his Clip died and I found out that it now supports Rhapsody To Go) Also like that it fully supports Rhapsody to Go, including the channels. And it plays non-protected AACs, so I can play iTunes Plus tracks. I mainly buy from Amazon now.

12. Creative Zen V+ refurbished. - I bought it for line-in recording capabilities. The line-in recording quality not so great, but wasn't expecting it to be.

13. SanDisk Sansa Clip 4GB - AWESOME price point ($35 on Black Friday 2008). I bought 10 to give as birthday gifts throughout the next year. I'm keeping one for myself.

So out of all of these, which ones do I regularly carry around?

Both Touch generations. The 8GB is dedicated to audio. I keep it docked in my car. It's easy to navigate quickly while driving (mostly done at stop lights). The newer 16GB is mostly dedicated to video. I keep some audio on it to use while walking so I can use Nike+.

The Sony E436.

And the SanDisk Sansa Clip 2GB. (the 4GB still in box)

iriver clix 2nd gen

by viditbhargava - 12/12/08 8:58 PM In reply to: Yes by ktreb

Dude...nice collection. I wonder why you dont have a clix2 among those I have the clix2. Its awesome player. Bought it about a year and a half ago but it still rocks. Excellent sound, fm tuner, brilliant screen with great video playback. Just love it. It was a little expensive for a 4 gig ($200) at that time. It used to be the highest rated mp3 player on cnet, now ipod touch has the crown.
iriver has unfortunately not been able to come out with a successor to clix2.

I usually do not buy electronics sight unseen

by ktreb - 12/12/08 9:25 PM In reply to: iriver clix 2nd gen by viditbhargava

The problem with the Clix - NOT AVAILABLE LOCALLY

If I can find it in a physical store (Target, WalMart, Costco, Best Buy, Fry's, Radio Shack, Circuit City, Staples, Office Depot, ANYWHERE nearby), if someone I know has what I'm interested in, or I have experience with the brand then I would consider it. I probably would end up buying online (but I really like Costco's return policy), but I really want to see/feel/hear it before I spend $$$. I'm not concerned if the product in question was $35-$50, but if I'm going to spend upwards of $200 on something I want to know what I'm getting before buying. Granted, that's what reviews are for. But that's how I roll. :)
