Don't know if everybody had seen this or not but New York Times personal technology columnist David Pogue had a review of the "Best Camera Under $300". Not to spoil the surprise but the Canon PowerShot SD880 IS won. The complete article is here:

I wouldn't say it's the best camera. What if the person wants more focal reach, then it would be the Panasonic FZ28 or Canon SX10. What if they want decent reach, manual controls, and flippable LCD, then they'd want to look at the Canon A650.
There's not one "best" camera for everyone. I sell cameras during X-mas time each year and I get that question all the time, and I reply "It depends on your budget, what you want, and what you're willing to compromise on".
