Converting data from Treo 755p to Samsung Omnia

by cincyvic - 12/6/08 12:53 PM

I am with Verizon and want to buy a Samsung Omnia from them asap. However, i can't seem to get clear via Internet, youtube videos, verizon staff, etc. on a few things:
- Can i convert all my current data in my Treo 755p to the Omnia phone - e.g. memos, calendar, contacts?
- Is there some kind of desktop software, as Palm has, given i run my calendar daily off that software then sync later, OR do i need to input all info via the handheld?
- i think it syncs with Outlook (my work calendar) but not sure?

if anyone has any clue on any of these ques's, let me know. thanks!

Sync

You should definitely be able to back up your contacts through outlooks as well as any notes or to do lists etc. Then the Omnia which runs Windows Mobile should be able to sync easily with Outlook.

To be clear...

"all my current data" = no way.

But item by item you could move it over to Outlook. Since this is a Windows Mobile device, you will be moving to Outlook. Sorry but I've found this to be non-negotiable.

Now that we now the data is in Palm's Desktop (a program) we want to see how others move to Outlook. Some links for you.

You're welcome.

And thank you for not flaming me for the comment about Outlook. I'm only sharing what I'm experiencing.

My view is a little different as I am now porting my Palm OS applications over to Windows Mobile 2003, 5.0 and in theory 6.0 and 6.1.

How things work on WM are giving reasons to get a little cranky.

Whoaa I just saw your post in passing

I have been on Palm/Treo for ever and am giving up and have my entire brain tied up in it. Tried the iPhone and it went back while I was still carrying my 755P around. Omnia looks like the best alternative but and trying to figure out what I am going to have to give up.
You said PORT MY PALM OS APPLICATIONS - you don't really have a way to use the programs on WinMo do you? Your just moving the information to a similar program IF you can find it - right?
If you really have a way to use Palm applications please share and I will be picking up a Omni TONIGHT!
;-)
Looking forward to seeing your reply!

I really mean port.

I wrote Palm applications, still do and now have requests (along with green stuff) to re-write them to WM 2003, 5.0 and 6.x.

There is StyleTap at http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=STYLETAP but the functions we use are not supported so a full fledged rewrite is in the works.

Hope this helps,
bob

Morning Bob - THANK YOU for that fabulous news - I have been to StyleTap and it looks terrific - now it is time for me to go get an Omnia. I would rather have stayed with Palm but if I have to go to WinMo being able to take some key stuff with me makes life so much easier.
This news is an early "Christmas present" - Thanks so much.
John
