internet access after sp3 xpupdate

hey,
i am using windows xp. i updated to sp3 from windows update site, afterwards i cannot connect to the internet using IE7. i can ping my gateway,web sites(yahoo.com), router, but clicking on the icon it gives me the message cannot display webpage.. when using the diagnostics it tells me "windows cannot connect using http,https,or ftp. this is probably caused by firewall settingsfor the ports 80,443,&21. even with the firewall off still cannot connect...please help

update hardware drivers

I had same problem. Some hardware drivers are incompatible with SP3, but Microsoft does not overtly tell you that. You should have clicked on the link "What you need to know before installing SP3".

I had to update my wireless and ethernet adapter drivers, then everything worked fine.

Oh, yeah... lots of pre XP2 software is also incompatible. I believe that is what the other comment was referring to. Microsoft couldn't care less if any non-Microsoft software will work or not.
