I am only using the laptop for web searching and e-mails. I would like to have a burner, but not necessary if I can purchase that separately for the right price. According to Consumer Reports,Dell and Apple have the best tech help. I don't want to talk to a tech rep with a heavy accent that I cannot understand. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thank you!
Your specs reduce this to one choice fast.
It pretty much checks off all the boxes:
- weight (4.5 pounds, it does feel light)
- DVD burner
- good tech support (doesn't run 24/7, though)
It's a bit expensive for doing just what you ask ($1299 if you're looking at an aluminum model), but it also does these things WELL. The trackpad is really something else, since you can just put two fingers anywhere on the pad to scroll and three fingers to go forward or back in your current web history.
Dell does make some good systems like the XPS M1330, and you could certainly go their route, but see if you can try what you want to buy before you jump in. An Apple retail store (or a third-party store that sells Macs) will give you a good opportunity to try the system in practice. Dell does sell in retail, but some of their systems don't appear there.
