HTC Touch Pro on Alltel - with or without Wi-Fi?

by Riverdome - 11/21/08 7:13 AM

I'm reading conflicting reports as to the status of Wi-Fi on the HTC Touch Pro for Alltel. I know the Sprint version has Wi-Fi but I can't confirm if the Alltel version has that feature disabled/removed or not.

Anyone know for sure? Thank you.

The alltel version is not supposed to have wifi. Just pop over to alltel.com to see yourself(!)

Wrong side of the bed this AM?

Thanks for the help. Since the Alltel feature list doesn't include the possibility of wi-fi I'm sure you can understand the confusion.

Video messaging - Yes
Games - Yes
XM Radio - No
Wi-Fi - NOT AN OPTION ON THE LIST(!)

Enjoy your turkey next week.

Darn - guess I'm still looking for a new phone, thought this was going to be 'the one.'

why is this confusing?

And why would you suppose Alltel would want to hide such a feature if it was actual included on their version from HTC(?) Let's get down to brass tacks, eh? I don't think it's as much me getting out of bed on the wrong side but someone posting a question w/o using clear logic.

FWIW, the carriers all have some variants of the different models put out by various handset manufacturers. In this case, by not including the wifi radio they're forcing folks to pony up and spend extra $$$ each month using the Alltel EVDO wireless data network.

I'm not one to flame someone on a forum but I will tell you that as a new Alltel Touch Pro owner I can confirm with 100% certainty that you are DEAD WRONG about the wi-fi feature on the HTCTOuch Pro. Yes it has wi-fi, no it isn't mentioned on the Alltel or HTC site for the Alltel model. It's obviously a big mistake by both companies but your attitude was unappreciated.

{refrains from making a childish pepe joke}

To anyone considering buying this device I'm a big fan so far . . . but if the 3D interface doesn't speed up a little after I add more memory I may remove it in favor of the standard WinMo interface.

Surprisingly, the HTC site does list wifi on both the HTC Touch Pro & Diamond. Leave it to Alltel to mess that one up (my friend even knows their web sales team!).

If you are looking for an HTC device with response time anywhere close to the iPhone, be aware that you will either have to load a 3rd party ROM ('cooked' ROM), or learn how to tweak the heck out of WM6.1. FWIW, adding more external (storage) memory won't speed it up unfortunately.
Head over to XDA forums to see what the experts over there have tweaked on the HTC Pro.
