The best time to buy is now or black Friday. The people who run retail are scared. They listen to the so called economic pros and they are making people worry.
Their should be lots of bargains over the next 4 weeks
I just bought a nice laptop from bestbuy.com. I too was wondering if I would regret my decision to purchase it now or wait until the big shopping days, but I called and they didn't carry them in stores. It is a Sony Vaio for like $650. Centrino processor, 250 gb hard drive with I think 3 gb of ram. It has a lot of options, might not be near what you are looking for, but to customize a laptop with the options this one has at other sites was over $1000. There will always be bigger and better, but this is an amazing deal! Hope this helps!
Does that laptop has Windows Vista in it? If so, i pray for you.
First of all if there is a recession you would never notice it when you can't find a parking space at the mall. Especally when you can't find a parking space every weekend. Now as when is the best time to buy consumer electronics I would say int he slow down period of the summer. Its the only time you can find like Wii's I bought mine in the summer and at the time the store I went to had 20 of them and did not finally seel them all until after labor day. TV's, MP3&Ipod's, PC's any other electronic equipment the best time is the summer because of the slow down of business and the stores are trying to move inventory for the winter holidays. Another good time is after the super bowl you should never buy a Black friday door buster electronics because its junk equipment that they could not get rid of during the past year. One other good time is when stores are going out of business. So remember the summer is the best time to buy consumer electronics because stores want to get rid of old inventory and bring in the new inventory for the winter holidays.
Yes the best time to buy electronic goodies is now. Soon they will not be available. You had put up this question implying that you have set aside money for them. The recession will kill production of white goods. If there is production at all it will be of goods of daily living because that is all people will be interested in.
This recession has nothing to do with hoarding of money. The meltdown is in the Investment/Banking sector. Borrowers have defaulted in the repayment of billions of dollars (if not trillion) loans for dwelling units. Realtors took loans to build houses but could not get buyers so they too defaulted. What could the banks do? At best they could take away the property titles but then auction to whom as there are no buyers. For this reason the banks and investment companies went bankrupt. Money is like free air that needs to be circulated in the economy for the growth of the economy. Companies depend on banks for their working capital requirements of daily production. With the source of working capital drying up, production comes to a halt resulting in retrenchments. The result of large scale production cut backs and retrenchments is that there is less less money floating around. The first consequence of this is that prices of essentials will shoot up and then the essentials will go off the shelf as no longer being available as no longer being produced.
So get your goodies now as soom they will off the shelf. There will be no off season sales.
The best time to buy is.... "If" you have the money to buy and you "Need" to buy that product. If you don't truly "need" it, don't buy it.
I'm on here looking at the topic of discussion, and wow has this ever gotten off the beaten path. I came on here looking to find out when to buy a TV and I have to admit I got all caught up in this political discussion. But now that I've stood on my soap box and ranted I think I'll wait "till January to look for something. Unlike many I'm disabled and I'm on a fixed income which means I don't have money to hoard. I'm not too picky about a TV I just want something that works, and doesn't give someone a hernia lifting it up. I want something I can see not some tiny little screen that I have to put on the kitchen table.
So the recession is a bad thing, but here's waht works for me with buying consumer electronics.
A new item is usually priced at the highest point of its price curve (if you were to graph it over time). Soon after, you can buy it more cheaply by surfing the internet. I put protective tape on any corners and use it until the upgrade comes along. Check resal prices on eBay (you can check through successful sales to find what prices people actually got_ and sell if the price is right, then get the upgraded model. Belive it or not I have sometimes made a profit with this approach! It means that you are never more than about a year or so behind the cutting edge, but without spending big bucks after the initial purchase.
Steve Long:
Great answer. I will contact Newegg, TigerDirect & CompUSA to compare this years models with upgrades next year. It also has been suggested to get some training with installing your own system by purchasing the necessary hardware during model closeout times.
Thanks.
President Bush ducked the shoe thrower in Iraq!
Yes on Inauguration Day!
The best time to buy electronics is when there is a recession. Or when the prices are low such as now. So if you have the money (or can get it) buy now.
