Hell, i probably won't even go for Windows 7! Xp works just fine. If it ain't broke, don't fix it! I am sooo tired of my wife's Vista machine asking me, "Are you sure you want to do this?" "Are you really, really sure?" "Are you really, really, really sure?" "Did you really mean to click 'ok?'" Oh for crying out loud dammit, YES I'm sure! and Yeah, I turned that crap OFF!!!
And Vista's Windows Explorer has a nasty habit of shutting itself down due to some kind of internal error. "Windows is searching for a solution to the problem" is a joke and a colossal waste of time! I'm just about ready to wipe the entire hardrive(backup partition included)and install XP with Explorer 7, doctor it up to make it look like vista so she'll never know!
Heh - My answer(s are):
-- Yes, I'm perfectly happy with XP (What's holding you back from going to Vista?)
Well, after all this time, I've learned a LOT about XP, so I can therefore do a lot with it. I will say that I still have some SP3 jitters though. Plus, I haven't been in the spending mood for a new PC since Vista has been out on all the new machines.
-- Undecided (Please explain.)
I have a good two + years to think about it! I would probably tend to not want Windows 7 when it comes out initially, just to wait out the first adopter bugs. But I dont think people will be as hesitant as they were when Vista first came out.
-- I don't use Windows, so I don't care.
It's true. I actually do most stuff on my Mac. I help out with the PC's my family owns, and have an XP PC of my own, which I basically use to learn about Windows stuff on.
I kinda figured that, I think even somebody like me would've heard if somebody had come up with a disc like that.
LOL
My last 4 purchases were:
XP w/ Vista Upgrade. Made the change.
XP
Vista
XP - Set Up Dual Boot With Linux.
XP tried to Install a Vista Upgrade. Upgrade Failed. Running XP.
I like the Vista Interface. I like that I have less problems running XP. I like that Linux had less problems that both XP and Vista (strange eh?)
However I'm not finding anything magical about Vista, and since 7 is Vista as it should have been released I'm not feeling warm and fuzzy about it either.
Having used Vista ultimate with all its bells and whistles, the fact of the matter is that's all it is, not to mention that as an OS well this version s**ks, most of my software and games dint work or crashed !!
So know I'm back with XP Pro SP3, and can breathe better and enjoy my PC, software and games work just fine
As for Windows 7, I will wait and see for a couple of years, but the way things are going with Microsoft I'm not expecting more than an other pretty face on a older body ![]()

True, NO villain is Ever simple, sadly enough. Many start out as some form of paladin but sadly some succumb to the dark side[not money per se, just the Love of money].

Sometimes, it's not just money or the love of it. Sometimes it's power. Other times, it's just circumstances - they get a juggernaut rolling and don't know how to get off without hurting themselves or someone else. In Gates' case, I suspect it's a little of all three.
Love of Money & love of Power are nearly the same thing,Money=Power & Power=Money in at least 98% of the time.
Now, juggernauts happen sometimes but he neglected the basic fact that as a businessman the first person he needed to protect was his customer. The Captain is supposed to be the last one off the ship.

It's worth noting that Apple's OS X and Linux (along with Solaris, HP-UX, and others) are both descendants of Unix.
This is my personnal opinion, but over the years - and that's to bad - that BeOS was really something out of the ordinary. Into a network it would take some power from the one that who were not using so much and many other things, but I'm tired of this "who will have the last word". Anyway, this was my opinion and that's all.
Like it's only you're opinion rbsjrx. Nothing constructive in this forum "that's all". Thanks to everyone I wish you all good time.
BeOS was a very nice OS, as was Amiga OS, and their respective descendants Haiku and Syllable. Unfortunately, all were commercially unsuccessful and remain niche OSs for devotees and hobbyists. There are several Linux distributions that fall into the same category, e.g. DSL and DSL-n. The entry level of Linux distributions which are actually useful is Puppy Linux.
I do have one machine running Puppy. I'd love to play with Haiku and Syllable if I were among the idle rich and/or a few decades younger. But I'm not, so I use what's most useful for my day-to-day computing requirements. That means WinXP out of necessity and Ubuntu Studio out of choice.
Wouldn't it be absolutely HILARIOUS if MS was forced to back down & revive XP as was postulated in that Forbes article?????? It seems that every time they get an OS running fairly well they have to try & bring in a "Newer, MORE Powerful" OS That tries to hit the ground running but instead falls flat on its face for a Major case of road-rash at 100mph.
