I have a dell vostro 1500 laptop with a 2.0 ghz core 2 duo t7 processor. Nvidia 8400m gs video. 2 Gigs of ram and a 1680x1050 res monitor.
Wh i leave vista alone for a bit adn go back to use it the aero lags quite a bit. After playing around with the flip3d and dragging stuff, the interface speeds up to normal after a a few seconds. However its annoying and irritating. Running newes invidia drivers etc. No fix yet. Plz help. Also resizing windows is choppy and laggy.
Sounds normal with that little RAM running Vista with Aero enabled. What you describe sounds like the operating system is swapping out Aero related info from memory to make room for something else. The lag you experience is from the OS having to go back and put that info back into memory again.
There's probably not much you're going to be able to do about it. If the laptop will take it, adding another 1GB of RAM will probably help, but depending on how much RAM is allocated for the video card, it may only make the symptoms a bit less. Since it's a laptop, unless the video card is a mini-PCI, there may only be so much you can do.
Just links about that chipset -> http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=8400m+defect
For me, all laptops with that range of chips is a no sale zone but you must protect yourself by extending the warranty to 3 or more years.
