cannot create shortcut or find outlook

by HarmonyHT - 11/12/08 3:01 PM

Hi, by typing OUTLOOK.EXE in the "run" field I can open the program, but I cannot create a shortcut to it or find it on my computer. Also does not show up on start menu.

That Doesn't Tell Us Much.. ..

Which operating system do you have running on that machine?..

As to the path of "outlook.exe" on this XP computer with Outlook 2002, it is:

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office 10\Outlook.exe

Once you find the file, RIGHT click/drag the file to your desktop, release and select "Create shortcut here".

Hope this helps and let us know more..

can't find outlook in Office on windows xp

by HarmonyHT - 11/12/08 6:14 PM In reply to: That Doesn't Tell Us Much.. .. by Grif Thomas Moderator

Hi, I'm running Windows XP home edition, version 5.1.2600 service pack 3. The system info says the path is C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\. I guess my problem is I still don't really know how to find the file. If I go to Start, All Programs, Microsoft Office -- outlook is not listed. thanks! (sorry for the duplicate post!)

Try opening Windows Explorer

(Double click on the "my computer" icon) and navigate to the folder indicated. Right click the executable and select "pin to start menu" or "send to>desktop (create shortcut)".
That should do it.

Griff's instructions will work or ...

by Edward ODaniel - 11/13/08 9:47 AM In reply to: cannot create shortcut or find outlook by HarmonyHT

you can create the shortcut by following the instructions I gave previously, as your environment variable for PATH does include the path for Outlook.exe or it would not have started in the Run box.

1. Right click on Desktop
2. Select New
3. Select Shortcut
4. In the resulting dialog box type OUTLOOK.EXE
5. Click Next button
6. In the panel that indicates "Select a name for the shortcut:" type Outlook 2003
7. Click Finish
8. copy or move the resulting shortcut to wherever you want it and it will function fine.

Alternatively you can simply use the Search facility to search for OUTLOOK.EXE and when found right click on the file and drag it to the desktop and select to create the shortcut.
