Im currently in the market for a new web host myself - our current provider provides a great system but unfortunately their policies based on backups is ridiculous. firstly they wont stand over them in anyway with a complete disclaimer in regards to backups and secondly the service they provide cannot be verified by my company. it is in the lap of the gods as to whether it happens or not - if we have a fall over i dont even know what the policy is for getting back up and running again.
so the long and short of this is that im currenly looking for dedicated web hosting for my company (http://www.thewebbureau.com) that provides firstly a serious backup system which i can verify and that is at a reasonable cost per month for the entire server ie. less than 350 dollars (200 sterling ) per month.
I use GoDaddy now. Good mannwers and no support. But they are good for experienced users who do not have to call support. I have to call support so it is tough.
Are they Godaddy's son? They have the same phone & address and log on, etc.

Hello to all, Especially to the ones who are newbies here!
Like some of you here even I started late. I got my first domain in 2004!
Got burnt by many webhosts and then finally got settled with some of the prestigious ones, hostmonster and bluehost to name a few.
Anyway the point I am trying to make is that if you are new to the whole system of hosting a website then its better to learn stuff without making a hole in your pocket.
Try to look for free webhosts that offer quality hosting and wihout advertising.
There are many many hosts but one I recently tried was 000webhost
they offer cpanel hosting, 99.9% uptime (at least I havent seen my 3 free sites going down even once in the past 2 months), then they have this fantastico type installer which makes things quite easy for newbies as it installs scripts like blogs, LMS and several websites scipts etc automatically with just a few clicks. They are definitely worth a try because you dont pay a dime. The best part is that if you dont already have a domain then they give you a free subdomain.
You can sign for your free cPanel account here:

Hope this will save you some money as you play and become more experienced to go pro. Happy website building!
Hosting certainly good.
But not all there is good.
At them is affiliate program.
Here it is necessary to know.
A deceit!!!
000webhosting.com there
affiliate program is a FRAUD program - Beware!

I'm subscribed with 3 web hosting at this time, Lunarpages, Bluehost and Hostgator.
For Lunarpages, I have been hosting with them for around 3 years. I think their uptime is great because I never notice before they are down. Everything is running okay for all this while. (I guess they are down for very short period of time that I have missed out)
Bluehost. I have hosted with them since early of 2008 and everything is good too. Their speed is good. I am not sure whether it's because of their technology or just my internet connections speed is faster now. Their con will be Bluehost has only 1 hosting plan, everyone has to go with the sole plan.
Hostgator. Also same with Bluehost, I started hosting with them since early of 2008. Hostgator is great for their customer support. In term of performance and hosting features, it's good.
In fact for all the three hosting up there, they all have around the same hosting features, performances and prices. Perhaps they are the big shots in the industry and trying to eat up other competitors. So they compete stiffly among themselves.

web hosting
I have no webdesign skills but have an active online presence. I purchased one year web hosting plus free domain name at globat.com for around $4.95 a month. I cancelled my membership within 24 hours. They offer less than 20 templates through their free globuild "site builder" software. The templates are TERRIBLE. If you just need a domain name, its a great bargain. All UNIX based- but you can FTP in your own creations. If you are looking for a web host that has a complete site builder for idiots like me, go elsewhere such as godaddy.com's Website Tonight or Wordpress for free.
There are so many website hosting review sites out there. It's difficult to make the right choice. Personally I found a good web host after visiting http://get-website-hosting.com/ But I must admit, maybe I was lucky. I have no experience with the other "top hosts" mentioned on their site, but my host is fantastic. Support is excellent and response time about 10 inutes.
