Thinking of installing our first home theater in our family room
Plasma in the corner one stand
Room is about about 20 by 13 ft or 6 m x 3.9 m
Need small speakers that must be black - will probably mount on wall up high
Questions:
- 2.1 or 5.1
- speaker placement recommendations
- speaker recommendations - want to spend less than 1000 us
Thinking of maybe Mirage Nanostat 5.1 system
placement. What is generally regarded as ideal is for the sound to be emanating at ear level. If the placement is to be high, I can live with that with the caveat you carefully tilt them down to what is aimed at the ears in the "Sweet Spot" listening area.
The Nanostat is a good place to start serious considerations from. I am an old smalltime audiophile, & as such, cannot overemphasize committing yourself to a program to seriously audition the possible speakers. None are perfect, yet each brand has its own sound character. Also, no dealer listening area will sound exactly like your own individual room. But, the time investment will give you confidence of having evaluation of at least a few possibilities. One will rise in your mind for the best selection as the most pleasurable to your own ears.
The Feb 2008 free online Playback magazine from The Perfect Vision people has an article featuring a fine group of bookshelf speakers under $1000 to consider. Check it out @ http://magazine.playbackmag.net/playback/200802/?u1=texterity
An old fashioned guy like me might go for the best 2.1 setup I could afford, but most folks in your circumstances will go for 5.1. It is nice to have the surround sound to enhance the new big plasma.
I read somewhere that Vizio was coming out with a sound bar in the next week or two. Might be worth checking out especially with the sales coming up. Certainly solves size issues!
in the mud about sound bars. Yes, reviewers are saying decent things about them, but hey, it is an electronic trick system that attempts to project extra ambiance basically to the back corners of preferably symetrical room. But, remember it is not true surround sound, but an artificial attempt.
