Share speakers over a network

Is there a way to share my desktop PC speakers over my network, so they can be accessed from my laptop and e.g. have iTunes on my laptop play music on my laptop speakers and also on my desktop PC speakers simultaneously?
One way of doing this is by using an Airport Express and plugging my speakers directly into it, but I already have a wireless router and PC connected to the speakers so I'm assuming there's some way of doing this.

I've seen this work but just like what happens when you put speakers 50 feet away the delay quickly kills this as a good idea. The issue is worse as the LATENCY or DELAY across the network is unpredictable and you'll scream murder as you see your investment in sound multilated.
The Apple solution is very good. Go try it.

So Windows 7 supports this? Is it inbuilt?

Did you look at VLC PLAYER? It's a cross-platform media player and streaming server.
That is, you can set up the server and the player plays what you stream to the machines that connect to said server. Be aware I don't offer any support for this but the most common gaffe is the firewalls and the latency issue is something you should watch for and when you hear it you'll go "ahh, that's what he meant."

coz I'll be playing the music in the same room. Thanks for the help I'll check it out...I've been wanting to download VLC anyway. Will let you know how I get on.
