Hi there,
Can I know how to use BBS code in posting comments on cnet news, blogs and other cnet portal? I have tried inserting URL by typing [ url ] [ /url ] but it does not turn out to be a proper link.
In these forums we use some BBS codes, and the ones available are described here;
http://forums.cnet.com/4520-6035-6656507.html#html1
For example, that link above was just the http ://forums.cnet.com/4520-6035-6656507.html#html1 , (I have added a space so you can see the whole link in normal format).
But i could have used this; Forum FAQs, which is made up as follows;
[ url http://forums.cnet.com/4520-6035-6656507.html#html1 ][ b ]Forum FAQs[ /b ][ /url ].
Note that the only space that should be in that link is between the url and the http. The other spaces I inserted so the BBS code can be displayed..
But this is not standard within other areas of CNET, and different BBS rules may apply, or they may be disabled completely.

I can login but can't reply to the last Open Road (Matt Asay) Blog post. Type the comment in, press submit, flags "Done" and is lying... nothing appears. So, it's committing the dual sins of trashing all my typing and not being able to post a comment. So, unfit for the purpose intended I think...

not working for me either.
Thanks for reporting this.
let me know if it is still broken for you.
Thanks and sorry about for the inconvenience.

USA Today has it right, newest comments get posted first. I find it far more interesting to read comments this way.
These are not blogs. These forums are here to help people who have problems with computers and other technology. The questions they ask will always be the main focus of any thread, and so it would make little sense for that question to be last, and any reply to be before it.

I was referring to the "comments" that are made on product reviews and news articles. Of course we should see the latest conversation that's taking place. It doesn't matter anyway, because they're not listening.
I am on an Ubuntu computer using Konqueror and FireFox.
1) Why is the create account and login not separate links. Why do I have to click twice to log on.
2) Once I logged in my user name is in the feedback box but at the same time the page reloads and I am no longer logged in and can not comment at all. So I never get to 'log in' or comment does not matter what browser I am using.
I just joined and wanted to post a reply on a post about a netbook. I couldn't do it because of an ad on top of, I guess, a submit button. That is not a good feature. I'll check out the ads, but I think placement is a BIG issue.
If you have the URL to the place you were posting that would be helpful too.
Thanks!

Sorry I don't remember what ad it was. Here is the URL
http://news.cnet.com/8301-13924_3-10108025-64.html?tag=mncol
I checked it today and the ads stay at the bottom. Maybe it was to block unregistered people trying to post? I had just registered and maybe it didn't compute yet. Ultimately I was able to post.
it happens to you again.
Thanks again for following up!

Your web generates an error message when reading feedback from the following URL: http://ces.cnet.com/8301-13855_1-9840910-67.html
When attempting to go to the next page or next 10 comments all I receive is the error message:
We're sorry, but the page you requested could not be found.
Cnet caches recent posts to decrease the time/effort to retrieve them, but since that article is nearly a year old the system must 'go digging' for the old posts. This tends to result in a Cnet 404 (Page Not Found) error on the first few load attempts (likely due to the request timing out), but it subsequently works. AT this time that page is loading correctly here.
