Norton 2008 Add on pack

I've got the 2008 add on pack but although the password protection covers the internet security activity log it does not cover the add on pack therefore the kids are able to disable logging and delete all their activities. This makes a nonsense of the whole thing. I have contacted Symantec and they say that this is true. Does anyone know anything different?

Hi Bridget232,
This is Mike from the Norton Authorized Support Team.
There is the ability to password protect all of the settings in Norton Internet Security, so that if anyone tries to make any changes to the application, they would have to input a password.
To set this up follow these instructions.
1. Open Norton Internet Security 2008 and then click on "Options" on the left side of the window and choose "Norton Internet Security" from the sub-menu.
2. Put a check in the box next to "Turn on Password Protection," and click the "Apply" button. You will then be prompted to input a password and to then verify it. Click "Ok" and then the "OK" button at the bottom of the window.
Every time you or someone else attempts to make any changes to Norton, the password prompt will be displayed and changes can not be made until the proper password is typed.

Thank you Mike for getting back. This is my problem. I have done what you said and believed that it was protected only to discover that on the internet security options it works but on the add-on pack at the bottom there is no password protection and it is possible to disable logging and delete all the entries. I really do not understand why Norton have not including it all together because it makes the parental controls absolutely worthless.
I have sent feedback to Norton but still stuck with the problem.

Hi Bridget232,
After following the instructions I had posted to set the password under the "Norton Internet Security" options, you will then want to "Turn-On" and then "Configure" the "Parental Controls" under the "Norton Add-on Pack" tab in the main window.
Please go into Norton Internet Security and select "Run LiveUpdate" to make sure you have all of the latest patches applied. Then go back through the instructions I posted, making sure to complete the setup under the "Norton Add-on Pack" tab to "Turn On" and "Configure" the Parental Controls.
Let me know if you still have problems.

Thanks again but I have done all that. Password protection is turned on. Parental controls are 'on' and configured so that logging is enabled on the add on pack. However, when I go into Log viewer I am still unable to change anything on the norton internet security settings without putting in a password but when I click onto any of the add on pack settings - restrictions, private information or e mail filtering it is possible to disable logging or delete anything. Password protection does not apply to the add on pack. If you try it you will see what I mean unless my add on pack is different to any other one. Is there a more updated add on pack that has password protection or is included in the security password protection? I do appreciate your help.

I have solved the problem. I've upgraded to Norton 2009 and the new add on pack is incorporated into the internet security. It is much better. Password protection covers the main security setting and includes parental controls. Thank you so much for trying to help.

sorry me again. I was thrilled to find that when i upgraded to 2009 and parental controls it seemed to be great everything was password protected and on the main screen the settings cannot be opened unless a password is entered. yesterday to my horror I discovered that although the computer and internet settings are password protected the identity is not and when you click on settings there is access to everything. It is possible to just turn off the parental controls which puts me in a worse situation than previously. At least 2008 restricted some sites but this is not working at all. Sorry to be a pain but why is this so. I have done everything but how do I password protect the identity settings.

I just thought that because when I clicked on settings there was no password prompt and it was possible to turn the parental controls off but I then discovered that after turning them off it was not possible to access any blocked sites without then putting in password. Thanks for all your help but it's all sorted now.

I need help !! i had installed Norton Av 2009, first impresion very good, very fast, complex, and a good rate of detection, but it destroyed my Windows, I can t install Photoshop (installer from official website) CS3, it appears an error, like ,,Critical errors were found on setup, Session have dependencies that can not be satisfied...,,
Ans some programs like Media Monkey 3, Acdsee 2.5 Pro and others doesn t work anymore and my pc sloes down very much. A already unininstalled Norton, and I even reinstall my Vista, i heve reinstalled then XP. for Photoshop at least was the same problem...

I am confused by your initial posting. If you could please provide more specifics about your system, etc, that will enable me to better assist you with getting Norton AntiVirus 2009 installed and operating correctly.
First, are you installing Norton AntiVirus 2009 on Windows XP or Windows Vista? Also, did you make sure that you have all of the Windows updates and patches applied, prior to installing Norton? Does you system meet, or better yet, exceed the minimum qualifications for installation?
Did you have a previous version of Norton or another antivirus or internet security suite installed when you tried to install Norton AV? If you have other antivirus applications installed and running , you could be running into a software conflict. You should never have more than one anti virus installed.
I can assist you with getting Norton installed correctly, and as far as I know there are no known issues with Norton and Photoshop. I am unaware of and unable to provide support for the other applications you list.
Please let me know more specifics about your setup and we can go from there.

Software specif > Windows Vista Ultimate OEM SP1 X32 (tried on XP too and make same problem), and didn t have any other antivir on my PC, i know that they enter in conflict...and i mention that norton broken some aplications too, and i m sure it s norton because i had tried to someone else pc the same thing,,,but most of all i can t install Photoshop CS3 anymore!!

Hi dadytzu4all,
Thanks for providing me with more information about your computer.
The problems you are having are due to either problems with the Windows OS or infections.
Run the Windows Chkdsk and other disk utility programs first to check for problems with your disk, etc. Make sure there is sufficient free hard drive space available as well. Clear out all temporary files in the C:\Windows\Temp directory and also all temporary internet files.
The next step is to properly remove and reinstall Norton AntiVirus 2009.
1. Click on the following link to download the Norton Removal Tool:

2. After you run the tool, restart your computer. Log in to Windows again and run the removal tool again. Restart your computer after it is finished running the second time as well.
3. Follow the instructions on the following page to re-download the latest installer for Norton AntiVirus.
Re-download Norton Installer
4. After the installation is complete launch Norton AntiVirus and then click on "Run LiveUpdate."
5. When LiveUpdate is complete, perform a "Full System Scan" to check for infections. For a more thorough scan you can also restart Windows into Safe Mode, launch Norton and run the scan from there.
Let me know if the scan finds any infections and weather or not Norton removed them.
