Smell of something burning...

open up my laptop... WHAT! what has happend here?

Can that white stuff be replaced?

(Laptop is Toshiba Satellite 2450-201... a few years old now).

Newegg.com, many places carry that material but it's not what's failing.

This laptop is FAMOUS for getting smoking hot due to the CPU which is that IntelŪ PentiumŪ 4 2.4GHz. Just like a high end hot rod you need to perform a yearly cleaning of the vents, heatsinks and now must refresh or replace that compound. If the machine boots and runs still, try ARCTIC SILVER next time.
