Using Google, or your search engine of choice, type in something like "back up bookmarks <browser version>" replacing <browser version> with the name and version of the browser in question. Then start reading the results.

You have the option of opening an account. Which is GREAT. All you do is set it up and forget it. The super thing is if you ever lose everything you can re-install avant and sign in. It remembers what you want it to. What a great little browser.

Now plug in the USB, "open it" and drag the favorites file into the open USB file. If you have trouble with the entire file then open the favorites file and drag each file to the open USB file.
Specifying the OS and browser would have been helpful.

by kaliix - 10/18/08 4:30 AM In reply to: bookmarks by diskworldNot to be a wise guy, but it really depends on what browser and version you are using and possibly the OS. In IE, if you are using Vista and probably XP, you can do the following: use the windows key (between Alt and Ctrl) + E to open Windows Explorer. Go to Local disk (C:) then find the Users folder, find your user name, open that and your favorites folder should be under your name. Drag and drop the entire folder to the proper USB drive letter for the external USB drive that you want to back up to.
If your smart and using Firefox (I switched long ago, Firefox is just better) then Google Foxmarks. Install the add on, create an account and store you bookmarks on their server. Not only will they be backed up, but you can install Foxmarks on any other computer and have your bookmarks available to you where ever you go. This what I do and what I suggest you do as well.

by diskworld - 10/18/08 10:07 PM In reply to: It depends by kaliixto kalix,,i downloaded and ran foxmarks and i really had problems after that with firefox[browser].it wouldnt open any of my bookmark links it wouldnt alow roboform to open anything,,it wouldnt even open firefox website links...it really screwed things up..i even had trouble with IE,,and k-melon...i had to remove firefox[twice] and download a fresh version before i could do any browsing at all...

Foxmarks simply sync's your bookmarks with your bookmarks on Foxmarks server. It doesn't and shouldn't affect opening of the links at all, if opening a link from the bookmarks folder and definitely not when just opening a link from a website in Firefox.
If you started having problems with Roboform and with IE as well, I seriously doubt that it was Foxmarks. The legitimate version of Foxmarks should have no affect on any other programs. I assume you downloaded the add-on from Mozilla's page (addons.mozilla.org). If you didn't, you may have not have gotten a real version of Foxmarks. If you did, I would check what else you installed/downloaded at the same time.
Your problem, admittedly, is very curious...
