I bought a used HP Pavilion dv2000. There are no original software/hardware to be found for the webcam. The person I bought it from has upgraded it, so it's no longer a dv2000. I went to HP's site and they detected it as a dv2617us. But when I right click comp and check properties it says dv2500. Which is correct? And what do I need to get my webcam working?
It's far cheaper than buying the Microsoft OS and should correct the webcam issue.
Has a specific install order. To see an example read this discussion -> http://forums.cnet.com/5208-7587_102-0.html?forumID=69&threadID=271360&messageID=2699006&tag=forums06;posts#2699006
This does NOT apply to your machine but I use as an example where you need to talk to the laptop's maker to find out not only the install order of drivers but if they have them squirreled away on their FTP site.

I would follow these steps:
1) follow the support links on www.hp.com for the "drivers and downloads" for the HP DV2500 - download the drivers, then execute them to reveal the files
2) copy all files into a single folder, call it "drivers" if you wish
3) follow the support links on hp.com for the "drivers and downloads" for the HP DV2617 - download the drivers, then execute them to reveal the files
4) copy all files into the same folder, but do not allow any files to be overwritten - rename as necessary
5) go to device management, and go to the properties dialog box of the camera, and choose update driver, then specify the location of the driver files and point it to the folder containing all of the files you've downloaded, OR,
6) once you choose "update driver" then you simply let it search for drivers
this might work, if you capture the drivers for the right operating system - don't waste your time or bandwidth downloading the 64-bit drivers unless you are using the 64-bit version of windows, get it?
Ordering the original restore DVD will definitely do the trick, and if this doesn't work, that would be my next step, and it will also fix any other problems you might be experiencing as well.
