HP Laserjet 1006 on Win98SE?

by FredS - 10/5/08 10:33 PM

Is there any way Hewlett Packard Laserjet 1006 can be made to run on a Win98(SE)machine? I need a new printer now, but I won't be ready to buy a new computer for another month or so.

I know that all the official HP literature says "No" to running the Laserjet 1006 on Win98. Win2000 is the oldest it says it will use. However, I found a Vietnamese web site that seems to list Win98 as being okay to use with the HP 1006.

I'd hate to buy an older model printer today and then want the newer HP 1006 when I upgrade computers later. Is there a workaround for making HP 1006 work with Win98SE?

The workaround involved a Windows XP machine.

We ran into that at the office. We set up a network share to drop documents and such for printing from the 98 machine. So there is a workaround but it does involve a machine that is networked and is on the list from HP.
