Trojan Horse Small.AOQ

by bently - 10/3/08 11:56 AM

Using AVG 8, Comodo 3. Windows Defender. LinkSys router for firewall. Win xp home SP3. All updates on everything.

When I boot my computer, I get popup that AVG has found "Trojan Horse Small.AOQ".

When I click on HEAL, I get message not found. If I reboot, the same popup comes up, I click on MOVE TO VAULT.

Then when I reboot, I get the same popup that AVG has found Trojan Horse Small.AOQ.
I checked and "Trojan Horse Small.AOQ" is listed as being in the VAULT, but the popup happens everytime I reboot.

I ran AVG, Spybot, Ad-Aware 2008, Windows Defender, and Threatfire. Nothing found even with AVG, which reported the problem.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Ben

Possible false positive..

by Carol~ Moderator - 10/3/08 12:46 PM In reply to: Trojan Horse Small.AOQ by bently

Ben..

There is a thread at AVG's forum. See this:

http://freeforum.avg.com/read.php?4,150001,backpage=,sv=

And with a quick Google, I find many people reporting it at various forums.

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=Trojan+Horse+Small.AOQ+AVG&btnG=Google+Search&aq=f&oq=

I would keep an eye on AVG's forum.

Note: The thread at AVG is 4 pages long.

Since it seems relatively new, people are reporting different theories, as you'll read in the thread. Some point to PC Tools Spyware Doctor, while other's to Threat Fire. I'm sure it will be resolved, once the "excitement" dies down.

AVG has found Trojan Horse Small.AOQ.

This may help as others indicate a commonality, I had AVG running on my machine and when I boot my machine I see a player looking icon in my systray for a few seconds during boot & I have no idea what it is, the machine won't do anything until that icon goes away, then it aint listed in process list so I have not way of finding out ...
anyway none of that is really relavant unless you know what it is and can tel me, but it's a 2ndary issue...

to try and eal with it I installed THREATFIRE and as soon as it got installed and launched, AVG threw the msg about "AVG has found Trojan Horse Small.AOQ" after reading what others have said , I now believe it is a false positive triggered by Threatfire ... unless threatfire really is infected ????

Hi, Ben! Given Recent Expieriences w/FPs

& AVG, I would strongly urge you to NOT empty/delete that item from quarantine for time being. If it proves a false positive, you will want to restore that "whatever it really is" back to it's proper place from current location. Good Luck! :-)

Error message with AVG free 8.0.173

by pnaustx - 10/5/08 8:10 AM In reply to: Trojan Horse Small.AOQ by bently

Like a lot of other folks, I had been getting this error message upon booting up since Oct 1st…..

I’m running XP Home SP3…..I had run every different anti-spyware scan I could think of (SpyBot, Malewarebytes, SpywareDoctor, CCleaner, TrendMicro Housecall, HijackThis, Advanced WindowsCare2, Kaspersky, Sophos Anti-Rootkit and probably some others I don’t recall) including AVG to no avail……never had an intrusion that SpyBot couldn’t catch before.…also looked in registry file and could not find….when I clicked “Heal” or “Move to Vault” I got message “some files cannot be healed or no file found” and it did not appear in vault…

Several forums indicated this may be a conflict with running SpywareDoctor or some other programs…..this does not make sense to me as if it was, with all the hoopla, either PCTools or AVG would have sent a fix in an update by now….also several conclusions that this is a false positive….to me, there is no such thing as a “false positive”…..even if it’s not malware and it’s popping up annoying me, I’m getting rid of it….

MY SOLUTION: finally I downloaded and installed the latest version of GMER (1.0.14.14536) and ran the rootkit fix……voila, the bug vanished…..I’m not a techie…..I don’t know that much about computers…..I just keep trying stuff until I find something that works…..

Remove Spyware Doctor

by suwish - 10/5/08 1:14 PM In reply to: Error message with AVG free 8.0.173 by pnaustx

I found someone removing the Spyware Doctor and the problem went away. I did it and the same happened. My problem is gone too.

Trojan horse Small AOQ

A clue?? Both of my computers are running XP sp3. Both are running a recent paid install of Spyware Doctor. One is running AVG 8.0. The other AVG 7.5. The one running AVG 8.0 gives me the Small AOQ Trojan warning on every boot up. The one running AVG 7.5 does not. Could there be a conflict between 8.0 with Spyware Doctor but not with 7.5?? Come on AVG let's hear from you!!

Trojan Horse Small.AOQ

I am running XP with AVG anti virus. I was using service pack 2, but as I began to research this trojan problem, I was changing to service pack 3. Once reading some of the solutions, I decided to also remove Spyware Doctor because some said that that would work. So, I dont know if it was removing Spyware Doctor or loading service pack 3, but it worked. I assume it was the removal of Spyware Doctor. Good luck.

Belated reply....

I posted a reply over a week ago and I see that it is not showing. I turned off my computer after the post so somehow it did not post.

So here it is again.

I installed Threatfire over 6 months ago, I used it only once and forgot about it.

After the Trojan message popped up, I tried various things and because of info from this thread, I uninstalled Threatfire , and Firefox. (I am using Seamonkey)

Since I did the 2 uninstalls, the Trojan popup messages have stopped.

Thanks to all who replied, I really appreciate the help.

Ben
