Basically, I need a camera that can take pictures of textures so I can use them on 3D models created on the computer. I am having a hard time deciding because I don't know how many Megapixels & Zoom is needed to accomplish this. Anybody help is appreciated.

I have a Sony DSC-T100. It's a couple years old, but takes amazing macro shots. You probably want to use a macro mode on whatever you get, in order to see texture.
Another option is to use a scanner. You get nice even lighting with a scanner bed, and if it's too bulky to fit under the lid, make a black box. (line a shoebox with black velvet and place over whatever you are scanning).
