How not to receive spam

Isp's at fault

I had a never ending problem with spam, I filtered and deleted all to no avail after complaining to my ISP many times about filters that did not work and asking for a junk folder like Hotmail with no response I sent them my daily dose of spam [usually thirty or more]for a week guess what my filters started to work and I am down to three or less a week Neil Ryan
Spam isn't that big an issue for me...

(b) I update my Junk Mail filters in Outlook when available.
(c) I "Mark as Junk" when needed in Outlook. It helps a bit.
(d) I don't give out my two most used accounts to just anyone. They must be someone I actually correspond with or a newsletter I intend to actually read.
Too much for me, but nowhere near as much as I could've got

I get around 10-15 spam e-mails a day on the weekdays, and about 20-30 on the weekends.
I use Evolution with SpamAssassin, and the numbers are starting to go down. I used to get around 50-100 on weekdays and 80-150 on weekends. You need to teach the spam-filter what is what, and so far it's doing a better job each day.

I was trying to figure out what the hell he was up to and it turns out he want on one or 2 dating sites... If I was to get that sort of spam my head would explode :O

I have 4 different email addresses. One for my friends, family, and business emails thru Gmail which I forward to Outlook. The rest are with Hotmail, yahoo and an old one at AT&T. They all now have very good filters and I do not forward any of those to Outlook except the Gmail. If I could only get rid of my close personal friends from Nigeria who keep wanting to give me millions of dollars then every thing would be OK. I agree with an earlier post about Gmail. They have an excellent spam filter. My wife also uses Gmail and has never had unwanted emails show up in her inbox. I think the key to avoiding email problems is to control what goes into Outlook and doing that requires checking your email before releasing it into Outlook. That is what I do and it works.

My ISP runs spam to a spam folder where it gets removed. I don't see it. A little does slide by, but not much.

My prophylaxis has often been discussed in this and other forums (fora?). I have a very tight circle of email correspondents. Even so, some of them aren't so careful with their web interactions, so I'm also very careful about what email I open, especially attachments. In other words, I send little email to few people, and I'm careful what I click on. The fewer places in the world my email addies are stored, the less likely it is I'll become a victim if someone unluckier or less cautious is compromised. Perhaps most importantly, although I have a "personal account" through my ISP, I don't use it. I have my active accounts with two web services, and they do a great job of spam filtering. Finally, I use decent "anti" software and keep it updated, in case being careful isn't enough. But it has never been obviously necessary.

I have GMAIL accounts. Plenty of spam but in a separate folder never the Inbox, the Googlemail algorithm spots spam very effectively. It dumps it after 30 days or you can clear it at your leisure. If you pop the email address the spam stays in the online spam box.
I have had one mis-filed spam in the last year where a genuine email was classified as spam. I suggested to my friend to drop the 'Dr' from their signature to avoid being categorised as spam.
Tip for Gmail users

If you use Gmail, you can create email address aliases whenever you fill out a form. An email alias is simply one email address that forwards to another. You can create and alias by adding a plus sign after you username. For example, yourname+1@gmail.com would automatically forward to yourname@gmail.com. What I do is add the name of the site to the address so that I know which site is sending me spam. For example, if I were entering my email address on www.anysite.com, I would use the email address [username]+anysite@gmail.com. If they start sending you spam, just set up a filter in Gmail to automatically delete all messages sent to that address. That's how I stay away from spam. Hope it helps!

I have my own domain, and can use about 100 different e-mail addresses (aliases) for it. My "real" e-mail address is pam@myisp.com. The e-mail address I give to family and friends is pam@mydomain.com.
If I'm ordering something online, I can set up a new alias such as sears@mydomain.com if ordering from Sears. These aliases all dump into my real account. AFAIK, the final destination is invisible to the spammer.
I can see where the spam comes from and easily delete the new e-mail alias. Sears is just a random example and I have had no problems with them, but you get the idea.
It only costs about $10 a year to set up your own domain (although my registrar is $30/year), so it might be well worth it just for the flexibility of adding/deleting e-mail addresses even if you don't intend to set up your own Web site.
Second: My ISP provides an excellent spam filter, SpamGuard. I've never seen a legit message blocked (although I've possibly become over-confident in it and rarely check it). Only an average of less than two spam messages per week find their way into my inbox.

I have verizon -yahoo email ......it just bypasses my inbox and goes to the spam file it hangs out there for 2 weeks then auto deletes .
I can look at it if i want , look once in a while to see if any thing got spammed that should not be

but the Google address is receiving 50 a day... just trash and I use that address very little. I cannot understand how they are attracting such or how I got on that list in the first place.
I am beginning to think its Google spreading the address to these weird people.

I receive so many spams that I can no longer utilize my Outlook out of office notice on both home and work emails!! On Mondays I have as many as 50 in my inbox and will be spammed at least 20+ more during the course of the day.
Last night at home I checked my emails while I received 38 emails and 3 are not spam and another 26 were in my junk mail box....it is just RIDICULOUS!!!
