i have a fujis2 i need 4 AA so i was seeing if a brand of batteries are superior.
I have not exhaustively tested them, but in my experience, so long as you steer away from absolute no-name cheapie brands, they have all remained pretty consistent.
It really has a lot more to do with the Milliamp Hours (mAh). A higher mAh rating means that when fully charged a battery can power a device that consumes more power and/or for a longer amount of time before becoming depleted and needing to be re-charged. For example, a battery rated at 1500 mAh can power a device drawing 100 milliamps for 15 hours, or a device drawing 150 milliamps for 10 hours.
So even within certain sizes of batteries, you will see various mAh ratings. The higher the rating, the longer the battery should last before it needs to be recharged.
i really thank you
There is a newer type of rechargable. They are referred to as low self discharge batteries. Sanyo calls them Enloop, Kodak calls them pre-charged rechargeable, Rayovac calls them Hybrids. There are other brands. All will be pre-charged and rechargeable so you can pop them right in the camera and use them. You can use them in your old charger. Normal rechargeables lose charge pretty rapidly even if not used, these retain something like 80% of the charge after a year or two. Great to carry as a spare set. I bought a set of Kodaks to put in an old, seldom used P&S that seemed to be dead every time I went to use it and just eats batteries. So far, it seems to be solving the problem. I can't tell you if I get more shots per charge because I just do not use it that way.
What we really need are Lithium Ion AA rechargeables. I get 7-800 shots per charge on my DSLR, several hundred on my wife's sub-compact w/lithium, and just a small fraction of this on this old 2MP P&S.
ill get them
never heard of hybrids till now ill look into them
OK, Not rechargeable.
But they last so long might as well be.
I get 4 for my old Olympus, 500+ pics.
Although I don't use the screen a lot.
Personally I find them to be the best battery to use when you need solid power.
Although not cheap at 8 bucks for 4 AA
I have tried a variety of rechargeable batteries, and these have given the best service of any I have tried. I can take pictures all day on a freshly charged set. They are NIMH batteries. I buy the highest mAh rated ones they sell - it's up to 2700 mAh. These batteries outlast any others I have tried, and I have borrowed friends' batteries to check out other brands. Their chargers are very reliable too. I have found the best prices at http://thomasdistributing.com, and sometimes they list products on eBay or Amazon.com, which may or may not be a better deal - you have to compare the packages & shipping and figure it out. I run a nonprofit organization and we need reliable batteries to help us take photos at our events, and these are the best I have found.
With normal rechargeable batteries you always have the problem that they lose a substantial amount of their charge over a relatively short period of time even without being used. I have switched to Eneloop brand. They keep their charge for ages, I think after one year in the drawer they are supposed to still have 85% of their original charge left. I find them ideal for my camera because I don't have to worry about recharging them before going on a trip. There is always a full set of spares in my bag, as long as I rotate them every couple of years.
I use Duracell NIMH AA batteries rated at 2650 MAH. In my camera and my wireless mouse & keyboard they outlast all the others I have tried. The secret is to get the highest MAH rating both in the AA and AAA size of cells. Also the charger is important. Don't get the 15 minute one as they do not charge the cells fully. The charge has to be a minimum of 1 hour (the longer the better).
Early on I bought a 15 minute charger with batteries. It got so hot it melted the glue on the battery covers, and the covers came off. I notified the company of the potential danger and they said they were now using a different glue. They sent me a new set of batteries which charged okay but got extremely hot. I agree that a good charger is also very important.
I have tried rechargeables in my Pantax Optio 50 and found them not useable. Rechargeables don't have an initial charge high enough to allow the camera to function as long as even regular carbon cells do. Rechargeables only have an initial charge of slightly over 1.2 volts even when fully charged. They just won't allow for a very usable life before they need recharging. I find that Energizer E2 are a much better buy and last almost five times as long as regular cells and rechargeables can't even come close.
My experience with the Sanyo Eneloop hybrids has been excellent. They come charged, and better yet hold a charge for a longer period before they are used. Pretty high mAh ratings too.
Your camera should accept rechargables without a problem. "Carbon" batteries are obsolete and will not last in a high current-draw use like a camera and flash.
The key to a good rechargable experience is a great charger. A charger that relies only on a timer will not properly and fully charge your batteries, and won't keep them in decent condition. A charger with a brain (my preference is Maha) will keep the batteries in good shape and will fully charge them. Spend a bit more on a good charger, and your batteries will last. They will more than pay for themselves over any disposables, too, by a factor of 10 or more.
