CANON FS100 or Canon Camera's in General

by 97octane - 3/31/08 2:07 PM

I am very interested in the Canon FS100 model.

I have searched, downloaded the manual from Canon etc.. but cant find the answer Im looking for. Camera is not on the market yet... so

I would like a camera I can at least place a cheap UV filter over the lens to protect the lens. Are there threads on the front of any of these consumer cameras?

If this thing has threads for a small filter, it would be ideal. ANy thoughts?

Not sure...

You'll have to wait to see what others say about it when they get it. Or go to the store once they become available and look for the necessary threads.

DO any of the consumer level canon camcorders have threads to add a filter to them?

Why don't you go look at them?

Many stores have the consumer models on display. You can pick them up and look to see if they have threads.

Store

Thanks guys... but my question was directed to anyone who knew the details of any threads on any of canon's cameras. I am not in a store, but asked the question in a public forum.

Welcome to 2008 where we may/may not have to go into a store to have our questions answered in a forum.

Sorry, but I, for one, am not inclined to research

someone else's question when they can easily visit a store to obtain the answer.

Good luck with getting the desired service.

Well...

Not to sound like a snob, but stating the obvious to someone online doesnt really help them answer their question now does it?

I have the manual (PDF), been to the store in person... so my asking questions to general public requesting general info about threads on canon cameras in general really was just to satisfy my own curiosity.

Now, by your reply (et al), really doesnt tell me anything I didnt know already...

So much to say to yourself "I dont really know the answer to his question... so Im going to refrain from hitting the reply button to him only to state the obvious".

If you've been to the stores, why did you ask

DO any of the consumer level canon camcorders have threads

Perhaps, if you had said you examined the cameras at stores and found that none of the cameras have threads, more progress on the question could have been made. Then we wouldn't both have wasted our time.

I guess you'll just have to wait for somebody who has such a camera to wander into this forum and answer your question. I have two Canon video cameras with threads, but neither meet your criteria so, you're right, I can't help you unless I go and research the question on the web. My sincere apologies for trying to point you in the right direction.

Don't buy!

If the store or maker will not answer such a simple query imagine what happens when you bought it.

Cause'

by 97octane - 4/1/08 11:50 AM In reply to: Don't buy! by R. Proffitt Moderator

because the stores do not have the camera yet, thus they dont have a clue.... and it was my mistake to ask my silly questions in a camcorder forum for any additional information.

There are ways...

by R. Proffitt Moderator - 4/1/08 11:57 AM In reply to: Cause' by 97octane

But hitting up the maker's web site and finding the numbers are best. If they won't answer this, imagine after you buy it.

seems NO aftermarket lenses for canon fs100

by anpusr - 5/2/08 8:12 AM In reply to: Cause' by 97octane

97octane, you are not alone. I was in the same situation, and had the same question. No question is too fool to ask. Specially when you are interested in buying the latest model as soon as it is released to the market.

I am interested in this question, mainly due to the fact that I am going to use this camera in an environment that favour the growth of fungus (like in tropical country), and I want to protect the camera lense by having a filter in front of it, so that if a fungus growth is noticed, all I have to clean / replace the filter leaving the actual lense intact.

You may find the comments in Comcorder HQ more help full. Here is the link to the corresponding thread http://www.digitalcamera-hq.com/camcorders/canon-vixia-fs100_question.html?qid=20593.

Keep asking questions. Have fun with your camcorder (if you have already bought it :-).

Canon FS100 Filter Fix

by duncanshaw - 10/1/08 2:05 PM In reply to: CANON FS100 or Canon Camera's in General by 97octane

This worked for me. Note that rubber hood is essential also to stop sun glare. I just taped the filter to the FS100. Great camera! Happy directing!
