Windows won't recognize Canon Elura 85 or other Firewire DVC

by ensignsj - 9/29/08 1:28 PM

I have a Canon Elura 85 DV camcorder that I suddenly cannot use with my Firewire port. I've streamed video many times in the past, and it's been temperamental before, but never like this. I'm able to transfer pictures via USB on the camera side, but it is not recognizing the device when I try to use Firewire. Also, I can connect and charge my iPod via Firewire, but I cannot sync it with iTunes via Firewire. I have two Firewire ports - one PCI and one that connects directly to the board. I've tried everything at this point, including uninstalling both Firewire ports, removing them and then putting one back in at a time. I've even manually changed the drivers that run the Firewire ports, but nothing works. Please help!

When I see this I try the camera and cable on another machine, then I try a new firewire card if the test works on the other machine. If the new card fails I try a fresh install of the OS and drivers.
