Poll: Have you abandoned traditional film cameras?

by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator - 9/26/08 1:30 PM

Since digital cameras, have you abandoned traditional film cameras?

Yes, I’m now strictly digital.
Not yet. (Why not?)
Not yet, but I rarely use film. (When do you use it?)
Not yet, I use them both equally. (For what?)
I haven't gone digital yet. (Why not?)
What's a film camera? (Are you really that young?)

Yes, I’m now strictly digital.

Although, when I pulled a polarizing filter out of my SLR case to use on my DSLR, I had an unused roll of film. I told myself that I should drop it in and shoot it up. I may take both cameras and shoot the same things and compare the results.

99% digital. The 1% is...

I still use film if I don't have any of my cameras with me and I want to take pictures of something. Then I buy a disposable film camera at the nearest drug store - and have the lab provide me with scans.

Other than that, I've been all digital since 2005.

Digital versus Film cameras

by mjd420nova - 9/26/08 6:43 PM In reply to: Poll: Have you abandoned traditional film cameras? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

I am still devoted to my 35MM camera and will remain so until a digital camera can match what I can do with my 35MM SLR. I have tried almost a hundred digital types ranging in price from $100. to $1,500. and not found a one with one important feature, adjustable aperature that allows me to select what I want in focus and what I don't want it focus. This is called depth of field and can be the difference between getting a spectacular photo and an average photo. Also I've not found a digital camera that will allow the use of a 500MM telephoto lens. Yes, there are some types that have up to 12 times optical zooms but the rest of the effects have to be digital zoom and that results in pixelization. The digital camera is a great tool for the average photographer and amateur but it's inablities in certain shots make or break it's usage for me. With the invention of the onboard processor that can pick out and focus on just faces, this needs to be adapted to include zones and not objects to allow multiple focus zones and allow all elements of a shot to be in focus.

Have you tried a Digital DSR? They will accept any lenses your SLR will. There are full frame ones available with all the SLR features including full manual

Yes you can adjust aperture in Digital cams

by Richard Ussery - 9/27/08 8:51 PM In reply to: Digital versus Film cameras by mjd420nova

I dont know where you get the idea that you cant control aperture, because you can.

I own one 35mm film,a canon powershot a540,and a canon 40D and on BOTH digitals,I CAN AND DO adjust aperture, shutter speed, exposure value,ISOs,white balance,Auto Focus or Manual Focus,[I NEVER use digital focus, instead I ALWAYS use optical focus, ect, ect. I get great results for a lot cheaper price. And for lenses, well Im not sure about the limit they make, but they DO make 500mm lenses for digital cameras.

Digital camera in favour of Traditional film camera.

by raymond quah - 9/26/08 7:08 PM In reply to: Poll: Have you abandoned traditional film cameras? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

Yes, l am now using 100% digital camera too, compared to using film camera in the past before digital option is available.
Digital camera is very convenient to use, operate, ability to download to laptop and ease of sending photos to others via e-mail attachment whether for work or pleasure.
Apart from this, it can store lots of photos easily in memory card depending on it's size/capacity.
Digital camera now is getting smaller in size, easy tocarry, handle, etc.
Best Regards,
Ray Quah

All digital now, but....

by joerog55 - 9/26/08 7:30 PM In reply to: Poll: Have you abandoned traditional film cameras? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

I have a really good Canon SLR with lenses and other accessories that I haven't touched in a couple years. I'm on my third digital camera. The camera and accessory bag are on a shelf high over my work area and every once in a while I get a pang of guilt when I look at it, like I've abandoned an old friend. It has too many memories (and expense)attached for me to sell (practically give away nowadays) and yet I know I'll probably never use it again. I guess I'll rely on my survivors to dispose of it.

I haven't gone digital yet

by trishhooper1963 - 9/26/08 8:29 PM In reply to: Poll: Have you abandoned traditional film cameras? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

The reason I haven't gone digital yet is the price of more megapixels. Everything goes down in time, I have figured out. I still use 35 mm kodak throw aways and still own my little Kodak 110 camera. I would love to have a digital camera and a Handycam DVD recorder but being on Social Security disability does not leave me much money for extra things. I have to admit at 44 I miss working. I have to wait until tax time or some other time when i get some cash. I am grateful for what I do have, which is not much compared to some people. Nonetheless, I am very grateful. Even if I were still able to work, keeping up with the Joneses is not my cup of tea. I have looked at them and they are going down. Just waiting really. Thanks for reading.

Love my Digital Camera

by Keranurban - 9/26/08 9:26 PM In reply to: Poll: Have you abandoned traditional film cameras? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

Yes I only use Digital now, however,my SLR film camera was a lot faster to point and shoot.I also had a bit of trouble getting the film I prefered to use(Agfa Ultra). Is a Digital SLR faster than a regular Digital camera.
