Please help, I bought this computer, used, from a deceased friend's estate. It is a e.machine Model # w3050 with 70.8 GB. Harddrive, AMD sempron (tm) 3000+ 1.99GHz. 448mb. ram. It came new with XP Home edition service pack 2.Now I want to Restore,so I sent for the restore cd's. Then I inserted disc #1; hit restart; and started tapping the r key. This is the message that appeared "Stop: c0000218 {Registry file failure} The Registry can not load the hive (file):\system root\system32\config\security or its log or alternate. It is corrupt, absent, or not writable" That is it exactly how it appeared on a blue screen. Thank You for your time and any help with this. Elton
How to recover from a corrupted registry that prevents Windows XP from starting
If no help, I would consider buying a new Operating System disk. But first I would wait a spell to see if other suggestions might be posted.

The first thing I did was get another set of discs when the error message appeared. Also this computer is off line and I have dial up. My provider charges more if more than one computer, so this one with the problem stays off line.
Insert the disc, turn the computer off using the button on the front of the computer case. Waite about a minute, then turn the computer on.

Did you use the same procedures guided here;

Also, strange as it may seem, have you tried the 2nd disk first? I saw a post in these forums recently where someone had created recovery disks numbered 1 to 7, (not sure why so many), but had to put the #7 disk in first to perform a recovery.
