Opening my computer is a problem

by AmericanTexan9999 - 9/19/08 5:11 PM

I notice whenever I install certain programs or update windows, whenever i try to open My computer, or anything related to it, network places, my documents, etc. it won't do anything. I'll double click it and nothing happens. The hard drive spins for a minute then nothing. I tried restarting, killing the Explorer process and restarting it...what's going on?

What are those 'certain programs'?

And how do you recover from it?

Does Microsoft still issue updates for Windows ME? http://support.microsoft.com/gp/lifewinextndfaq says they did the last on July 11, 2006. That's more than 2 years ago. So what do you mean with "update windows"?

The most likely cause for such behaviour is malware (viruses, trojans, rootkits, spyware whatever you can think of). How are you protected and what other scans did you run since this started to happen?

Kees
