when will apple wake up to them selves
by hamwyn - 9/13/08 9:23 PMwhy is it that apple thinks that there so much better than every one. and how does it warrant them charging the consumer a huge premium compared every other maker. for instance i just got a new Asus M51sn that has core 2 duo 2.5 ghz, 2 gb ram, 320 gb hdd and 512 mb nvidia Geforce 9500m GS 15" screen running vista ultimate now it cost $2000 Au and the same Mac book pro cost $3,399.00 and it has a smaller hdd (250 gb) it crazy i can under stand a slight cost because of the little bit of design but they have stayed the same design since 2001

The discussion has dismissed any value of the OS that comes with it or the support. If those items have no value to you, you should not be shopping for a Mac.

but the OS cost less than Vista does and they still charge more and there is no way that OS X is worth the extra $1400 Au i am not a mac hatter i like them just they need to actually look at the market and not just internally

When you compare their current state of the art with the PC makers, they don't charge nearly as much of a premium. Of course I'm comparing prices in US dollars and you may have a different expereince.
Also service is different.
Recently I sent in a Sony camera for service. I also sent in an iPod (I have the same well known effect as Molly Wood on all things electronic) Apple Service was nothing short of fantastic. Sony was typical.

(ps Asus has some of the best tech support i have come a cross and i have dealed with a lot of them plus u don't get some one u can't understand)

it makes no difference to me i have a laptop and it's great it the Principal of the matter if apple wants to further their market share they need to be competitive (then macbook need to have even a basic graphics card even if it's only 64 mb it's better than nothing)
Apple is doing fine.

Sorry there is no doubt here that Apple is doing fine in growing market share. For you however they are not an answer.
