Something's adding a new side bar to my Google&Yahoo searchs

by items3 - 7/15/07 2:24 PM

Today I saw a new side bar during Google and Yahoo searchs with "Internet Speed Monitor" across top and "Ads by ISM and not from the website you are visiting" on the bottom every time I enter a search subject. Side bar contains links to websites with something to do with the search topic. What is this and how do I remove?

Seems to perhaps be related to London-based ISM (Internet Search Management), which I think audits the usefulness of search engine ads. Particulaly envolving Google and Yahoo!. What little I could find regarding it seems to suggest the it monitors the links or URL's that searchers go to or click on following a web search. Whatever, it sounds like some sort of spyware.

I would run spyware scans such as AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5.

If that fails to find and remove the problem I would stop using/uninstall Google and Yahoo!. And mean while use Google Toolbar 4.0.1020.6156 available at http://filehippo.com/download_google_toolbar/tech/?1913 . It's just a basic search toolbar with some options that can be turned on/off in the settings.

I know this is not much on the problem, but hope it helps.

side bar to google

by items3 - 7/16/07 5:20 AM In reply to: reply to: Something's.... by caktus

I don't have google installed on my computer, however, I did set it as my home page. Why would I install a google tool bar now if previously it was not installed? Will that help. In process of running a full sweep from ewido, but all of the others haven't found it..spybot, ccleaner, ad aware, spy sweeper

Sorry, I misunderstood that you had a Google tool bar installed. Please disregard that.

If it's not an apparent malware, I really don't know what to make of it. Except to look in Startup programs Start > Run > type in "msconfig" w/o the quotes and press OK. On the Startup tab, uncheck any programs that you think may be related to Google, Ads, ISM, etc. If unsure about weather a program should be checked, leave it be.

You might also look in Add/Remove programs, Start > Control Panel > Add or Remove programs.

Perhaps other forum members will weigh-n in the matter. It probably wouldn't hurt to post about the problem in Viruses & security alerts forum. Be sure to let them know what you have all ready tried. Perhaps even provide a link to this thread.

internet speed monitor fix

by compudummy - 7/18/07 7:05 PM In reply to: add or remove by items3

I had the same problem as you and followed these instructions and got rid of the problem.

Try this to get rid of: Click on Start in the toolbar, find the Internet Speed Monitor folder, select Uninstall. Then go to C:\Program Files\ISM and delete any remaining files in that folder. I had to delete a file called "bndloader.dll" manually and until I did this the software seemed to reload itself.

I have this thing on my computer, now I'm completely stupid when it comes to computers, but heres what I've done so far.
went to "my computer" then "ad remove programs" and found the "internet speed monitor" and removed it. I still got pop ups. I have downloaded so many different spyware searchers I lost count and NONE of them found it or fixed it. Right now I'm running a search for "bndloader.dll" as one person said to do earlier in the thread... lets see what happens.... I really wish I knew where this came from.... Ok I found nothing. Since I removed the "internet speed monitor" about an hour or so ago I've only had 2 pop ups. The first one popped up and then a few seconds later disappeared on it's own?? the second stayed and I had to click the "x" to make it go away. ok so I have no found anything related to this "file" but earlier I read somewhere to go to your "ctr alt del" thingy and look for "ISM" "Internet Speed Monitor" or "bndloader.dll" and end that tast under "processes tab" and they could remove it when they did that. I don't have anything in mine that relates, but I'd check yours and end whatever you find. Then you SHOULD be able to delete your file. I also have a file shredder, you may google file shredder theres tons of them. It's helpful on deleting things that give you that error. Plus it completely disposes of the file rather than sending it to your trashcan. WHEN you get that file deleted make sure to empty the trashcan! I hope this helps someone.... sorry If I didn't make any sense. :( like I said I'm completely stupid when it comes to computers.

OH YEA

I also downloaded "highjackthis" buuuut it came up with sooo many things that didn't look like a good idea to "fix" I didn't mess with it. BUT if you aren't computer stupid like ME that might help. They said that you have to know what you are doing or else you might delete something you need while using that program... that scared me so I scanned but it was all jibberish to me and I left it alone.

OIN Analytics, ISM, Outerinfo Ads

by justgold79 - 9/13/08 5:23 PM In reply to: OH YEA by chele61636

When this happened to me I had ISM installed along with OIN Analytics, and Outerinfo Ads, all listed in Add or Remove Programs.

I immediately ran vundofix and smitfraudfix out of habit. Then I ran a quick scan with Windows Defender. It found clickspring.c, virtumonde.a, berlinads, and Matcash.Gen!J

Needless to say, internet explorer 7 will be installed in case in the future anyone else wants to use my computer.
