Integrated X3100 vs. Nvidia 8400M (128MB) comparison

by lunite - 9/4/08 11:04 AM

A discrete graphic card is most likely better for gaming application, but how about for general uses like web surfing, word processing, watching movies, etc.? If both laptops have identical specs and screens, for general uses, will I be able to tell the difference between X3100 and Nvidia 8400M? (I only want to focus on graphics quality. I don't care as much that integrated card uses less power.) Would the text be softer, images showing lower contrast and/or less sharp by using integrated video card?
Any information is appreciated.

Heat problem with 8400 and 8600, yet Dell still use them

I have been looking for a Dell laptop. Despite the problem with the Nvidia graphic cards, they are still using them. That's why I am reluctantly looking at the X3100. Maybe I should look at laptops from other brands also.

No. Get out there and look at these things. The LCD is the deciding factor here.
