I just reinstalled the complete system because it had a bad problem of just restarting randomly. It could just be sitting there and just reboot. So when trying to reinstall the OS I noticed my primary drive was not being recognized. So I opened the case and pressed on the cable to make sure it was tight it seemed ok. When I started the installation process again the drive was there again. So I figured it was from a loose drive cable. Well after I got the system back up and running I didn’t install any thing else to see how it would act. It did ok for a little while then out of the clear blue it just reboot and of course the not shut down properly screen shows up. So I installed the updates from Windows but that hasn’t helped. I have looked at the audit’s and it’s not been any help windows doesn’t know what’s going on.
The Specs
Asus mother board.
64*2 AMD Athlon 4600 2.40 GHz
2 GB of ram Windows rates the speed of the ram as 5.9 for process per second.
OS Windows Vista Home Premium 64 bit
Video NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GS 512mb on board ram
Storage 80gb SATA HD for the OS and Pinnacle 7600rpm with 8mb buffer.
Storage 2 320bg SATA HD this drive is used for the raw video files nothing else 7600rpm 8mb buffer.
Windows rates the system with a over all rating of 4.5
If any one could please help it would be greatly appreciated.

Let's try the usual home built overlooked the most item.
-> Tell me the make, model of the RAM. A link is best. Now tell me the voltage they told you to set the RAM to and tell me how you setup your motherboard BIOS to support this RAM.

Well I have to be honest I didn’t look in the BIOS for voltage settings before you sent me this e-mail. I have now and I couldn’t find any settings. I do have to say this the A-Data 800 DDR2 512*4 is in the motherboard manual as being compatible with my motherboard. I didn’t have any trouble with rebooting like this for a year or more so if it’s a configuration setting I would be surprised. I think it’s a hard disk failure because some times it doesn’t even make it all the way through the POST it just come up with a message that states disk read error occurred press alt ctrl and del to restart. Nothing happens if I do but when I hit the restart button on the front of the computer it will restart but come up with the same error. I know I need a extra drive to swap it out with and I could tell rill fast if that was it but I just don’t have one at this time. I’m thinking I might swap the drives in the computer and see it that helps.
Sadly that's not good enough.

I'm sharing a very common issue and repeating far too many times to be funny anymore. The BIOS on the home builts is rarely getting the RAM settings right. If you build it yourself this is an area that you never or rarely had to know about.

Ok I know this isn’t a question that has just one answer but do you have any advise as to were to go to set the voltage? Does the ram manufactures have specs on what it should be set at. And do you think that is likely to cause the boot errors that I am seeing. Thank You for your help thus far.

I'm sharing an item I check on every home built today. Reading your post you seem to want me to tell you if or if not this is your issue. All I can share is it's occurring far too often and this item is something you research and get it off the list.
Yes, the spec comes from the stick's maker. If you had supplied some detail I might be posting those specs rather than just going back and forth telling you about how often this comes up.
Your choice here but let's try to get this off the list.
