Hi Anna,
I've had this problem for six months now. Maybe it would help to compare computers to see if a particular configuration is more susceptible than others. I have a Toshiba Satellite, Turion 64X2, with 3gb ram (I added 1gb three months ago), with Vista Home Premium SP1.
Sometimes the "not responding" will clear itself after a while. I can tell when my "not responding" will not clear itself after a while, when it stops accessing the hard disk. Then the only solution is a forced reboot via the power button.
Please post if you find your registry change.
Thanks
John
Hello. I see many posts about this , and if you google this problem you will see that there are literally thousands upon thousands of similar posts. When you google search most things you will have a couple of pages that are what you are looking for and the rest of some sort of loose association to what you are searching for. In this case it is actually the headline of the search for many pages.
I have several PC computers and three of them have windows. I build, sell, and repair computers for a living and have been doing this for many years. The fact of the matter is that windows vista simply does not work. If you are just browsing the web and so on windows vista is a nice little program. I do web-design as well and the adobe suite is too heavy to be run with vista. This program was made to compete with the ease of use with the Mac OSX interface. It has failed. Many people have posted several answers and complicated scenarios with how to make vista work. The FACT is , it does not work. I AM NOT COMPLAINING. I am switching everything to MAC and am 8 thousand dollars into the transition so far. I do not want to switch I simply cannot afford the time that is being lost with Microsoft. I am a PC man, but the truth is I will not be soon. All i am trying to do is save you time, im not putting down Microsoft. I am simply trying to explain that there is nothing to be done and if you are busy like I am and value your time , abandon ship now. Use XP or switch to Macintosh.
I am going back to XP... as a web designer/programmer(8-9 years), I have to work on PC for ease of test. I feel I should be working on the OS that most of users on my sites use... no luck for me. I use mac at home and experiences much less frustrations (I never had a computer that works 100%... there are issues on OSX with Adobe apps as well.)
3rd time I am giving a try to Vista since it's release... 32 and 64bits... 2 different box/hardware(2-3-4 gig of ram.... extra RAM speeds the system, but it's no help for the "not responding" issues). I am on a clean install... installed all the updates and adode CS4 suites(nothing else). Not luck... real pain to work with. Network issue, explorer and Abode apps stops responding, task manager not able to quit the 'not responding' apps. I need to reboot using the front panel button 3-4 times a day to get my job done. Reminds me Win98 days.
One good point... Microsoft gives me 30 days(activation) to test. 4 days was way enough for this 3rd try. XP 32 is by far the best OS for my usage. ![]()
If your computer was working great at one point and now its not ,then something is cuasing it to not respond. I dont think its OS problem. I fixed mine from not responding and it was bad .I couldnt do anything without freezing up!!!! Heres how I fixed mine. Just click on safety tab on your browser then I deleted all browsing history-temporary internet files- and cookies. Then click on tools,, then click on manage add-ons ,then disable all add-ons except for Like Norton or whatever use for virus protection. Then open internet browser check for results! This completely cured my freezing "not responding" problem. I think the add-ons were the problems. Hope this info helps. ![]()
