I have used file splitter deluxe for years just for this type of purpose, its fast and anyone can rejoin the files even if they dont have the softwaer. I paid $13 for it at the time (several years ago) but it has been something I don't want to do without.
Hmmm, interesting. I've had to send files to people before who didn't have access to many programs becuase they were running linux. The tried and true way to send files would either be the Gmail method above, or you can try a bit harder and create a free website, using www.tripod.com or something similar. MSN works, but it goes really slow if you have firewalls instaled, and sometimes will not work with certain virus protection programs (this will be true for all sized files, not just large ones). hope that helped a bit, and although this post is old it's still interesting to find new things out.
There are now several ways to send large files to ordinary mortals. I have recently had good experience with LiveCargo.com. I routinely send entire dvd's through the service with no problem.
The easiest way I have found is if you have webpage
storage space is to make a directory there for your
friend and have them d/l it from there.
I have been told by friends on dial-up that it is
much faster for them to d/l it that way then thru
e-mail.
If you do not have storage space for webpages then
there are on-line storage places that give you
some free time to use.
I know of a sevice, yousendit.com , check this link out they allow you to send files up to 1gb to their servers where upon your friend can then download it to his computer. Outside of this either you or your friend would have to set up a server and use ftp, to transfer files.
Ok, well, how much is a gigiabyte? Cause I think I heard YouSendIt allows you to send a gigiabyte... Is it free? Because when I went there, it is 100MB. Unless 100MB = 1 gigiabyte. Becasue when I searched megabyte to gigabyte, it says, "1 gigabyte = 1 024 megabyte OR 1 megabyte = 0.0009765625 gigabyte". And I am sending Diablo to my frendz. Don't say thats not possible... Because I'm sending them single player mode, but thats not the point, the point is it takes around 1.5 GB! I splitted it into two so it's 700 MB each but thats still so much! Do I have to split it again so its 4 350 MB ? I wan't a way to send a 750 MB folder so I can send it twice, PLZ HELP! ☺
Is this Diablo a computer game? If so, are you trying to send your friends a game that they have not purchased?
If so, that is considered piracy and is illegal. This discussion will end here in that case.
I gigabyte is 1000 megabytes, (one thousand) in binary. In decimal, 1 GB is 1024 MB

Sending files of that size w/o a prepaid allocation is a mis-use of the internet, and I personally do not like this habit.
Still, as a Member of C-Net I am obliged to render help, and the process is actually very easy.
In your Internet Options you have a choice to "break down" any e-mail into sections.
You could, for instance, make a setting to break down any e-mail acceeding 1Mb.
The recepient will receice some 750 e-mails, BUT once all parts are received they will by the Power of Harry Potter combine into one.
I had this problem often ( not that large, but still), and it worked beautifully.
This takes a few minutes more, but don't blame the ISP's, they also can handle just that much and in all honesty, a mail of that size is not an e-mail anymore.
Fair must be fair.

I used ezail file transfer to send a video to a friend, but it wasn't that big. You can find it at http://www.ezail.com
You could try.
Use Cezar FTP, install on your machine, if you have a router you have to forward the port number. Then he can download it from you with any browser on his end.
If you want the facility to set up all your friends and colleagues accounts to be able to transfer large files give these guys a shout. Within minutes of visiting their website I had a 100 meg file on its way to my hard drive from one of my customers. No FTP software, No bandwidth restrictions, no user restrictions hell I even got to use my own logo on the sign in page!!

Wow! This is real useful. I needed to receive a 75mg file from one of my customers. They tried emailing it!! When to this justupload site, downloaded a version and received the file. So many times I have had to pay for couriers - not any more!!
Try it - brilliant!
You can use ShareFile (www.sharefile.com) to send files of any size via email. Plans start at $20/month.
