Interesting article in the Wall Street Journal.

My takeaway is that CBS isn't taking this acquisition lightly, and is going to do what it can to derive income from it. No problem with that. But you know what that means: more oversight.
Pardon the network show pun, but "Big Brother is watching".
go to news.google.com and search for "cbs gives cnet site a makeover" (no quotes necessary) and then click through from there for complete article.
One last thing: Isn't that someone familiar on the embedded photo in the WSJ article?
But I'm not too happy that they obliterated our user profiles.
What happened to the community feeling that this site once had? The user profiles have vanished!
No disrespect to our parent company but they had zero to do with this redesign. Love it or hate it, it's all CNET.com's doing not CBS.
The project that led to this started over a year ago and little parts of it have been launching slowly all year, long before there was even a rumour of CBS buying us.
Of course we knew that CBS would be credited with this launch, since they are the parent company, but I heard a few grmbles about that headline yesterday.
So far the interactions we have had with CBS in my area have been asking our group to set up live streaming of the conventions, asking for content that might be played on local stations, and asking for appearances on shows and stories. They also just put my boss in charge of CBSNews.com. So far it looks like they're relying on us to keep doing what we do well. At least for now.
I do like the new look but it does seem that the user profiles are all gone. Where's all the "My Tech" stuff? At least the Facebook app still works.
Even though I'm not a CNET employee (I can always hope), I've heard talks about the redesign long time before CBS was even in the picture, and CBS hasn't done anything wrong with cnet yet (well I don't like the politics video on CNETTV, but eh at least it's interactive).
Tom and the rest of the CNET Networks gang, keep up the good work (and Tom's Boss: Congratulations ![]()
Pretty soon it's going to be:
http://www.cbs.com/cnet
Just like it became cbs.com/last.fm.html ?
