Trojan horse Dropper

by ronwiltx - 8/24/08 5:57 PM

I got a threat alert, but it does not offer me the option of putting it in a vault. The alert just keeps popping up in the middle of my screen. So what do I do. Both computers use AVG 8.00 but only the desktop shows this alert. The laptop does not show it.

The **** Name Shown: Is It....

Trojan horse Dropper.Agent.JOC .?? If so likely a false positive.

IF NOT the above, can you supply more info on it? Full name & path shown(where was it) & any other name connected to it (xxx.exe?). :-)

Clean the infection and replace the useless crap

by Azrael srl - 8/25/08 1:00 PM In reply to: Trojan horse Dropper by ronwiltx

First do an online scan and clean with http://www.bitdefender.com/scan8/ie.html AND http://www.ewido.net/en/onlinescan/
Now it's time to replace that miserable insecurity software that you use; download the installers for
browser - http://www.opera.com/ - use this instead that malware magnet IE
antivirus - http://www.avast.com/
antispyware - http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=435BFCE7-DA2B-4A6A-AFA4-F7F14E605A0D&displaylang=en/
................. - http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html
firewall - http://www.personalfirewall.comodo.com/
They are all the best in their category and FREE.
Unplug the internet line, uninstall the AVG junk and install these (if necessary in safe mode) one by one with each necessary reboot done.
Reconnect the line and update them (Spybot has it manual).
That's all. Now admire how fast and safe your pc is (only if you never use IE again).

fwiw

by bystander.again - 8/25/08 1:26 PM In reply to: Trojan horse Dropper by ronwiltx

AVG 8 flagged this trojan as a genuine infection for me two days ago. I was able to move it to the virus vault and remove it. Two back-to-back subsequent scans suggest I was able to rid myself of it.

AVG8 problems...

by jgrtmp - 8/25/08 5:04 PM In reply to: fwiw by bystander.again

Right now the new version is a little quirky. It is giving false positives. Some of these files have been around for years. Before sending something to the vault try to do a search using the errant message provided. Odds are someone recently had the same problem & the link will send you to a resolution page. If it says false positive dont send it to the vault, or restore it from the vault & reboot. Go to AVG programs Test Center & do a scan of what ever drive the offender resides on ( shorter time to scan ). Dont AVAST - it also FALSE positives. Its code is out of Isreal & sends data back to their software developement team - its spyware... Subsequent scans of AVG wont alert. Just once in a blue moon??? Iv'e gone through this twice. The 1st time I knew there was no way & sure enough someone else had a thread at CastleCops.com Dont give up on AVG they're getting better & better.

I disagree

by tanker12uk - 8/25/08 2:21 PM In reply to: Trojan horse Dropper by ronwiltx

AVG busted this for me with no problem the other guys advice may be a little biased as he recommended you use EWIDO to check your system Grisoft bought ewido out 2 years ago and its paart of AVG 8 and I swear by it it beat the pants of spybot 1.52 so its as always horses for courses

I Misunderstand Your Point....

by tobeach - 8/25/08 9:18 PM In reply to: I disagree by tanker12uk

the linked post show the SAME false Positive problem in BOTH AVG 8 & AVG AS 7.5 & even AVG AV 7.5 I think? Point was it had to do with buggy updates which AVG 8 etc. have been suffering from for the last few weeks.

For trojans, malware, spyware ect. is spybot search and destroy. I use comodo for the firewall and for antivirus too. Works for me :)

Give the following a try........

by Marianna Schmudlach Moderator - 8/25/08 10:27 PM In reply to: Trojan horse Dropper by ronwiltx

Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware or alternate download link

* Make sure you are connected to the Internet.
* Double-click on Download_mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
* When the installation begins, follow the prompts and do not make any changes to default settings.
* When installation has finished, make sure you leave both of these checked:
* - Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
* - Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
* Then click Finish.
* MBAM will automatically start and you will be asked to update the program before performing a scan. If an update is found, the program will automatically update itself. Press the OK button to close that box and continue.
* If you encounter any problems while downloading the updates, manually download them from here and just double-click on mbam-rules.exe to install.

* On the Scanner tab:
* - Make sure the "Perform Quick Acan" option is selected.
* - Then click on the Scan button.
* The next screen will ask you to select the drives to scan. Leave all the drives selected and click on the Start Scan button.
* The scan will begin and "Scan in progress" will show at the top. It may take some time to complete so please be patient.
* When the scan is finished, a message box will say "The scan completed successfully. Click 'Show Results' to display all objects found".
* Click OK to close the message box and continue with the removal process.
* Back at the main Scanner screen, click on the Show Results button to see a list of any malware that was found.
* Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
* When removal is completed, a log report will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to restart your computer. (see Note below)
* The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.

* -- Note: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts. Click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process. If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware.

**If you encounter this message:"c:\program files\malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamext.dll Unable to register the dll/ocx: RegSvr32 failed with exit code 0x5" Click on ignore mbamext.dll

...

Download and scan with SUPERAntiSpyware Free for Home Users

* Double-click SUPERAntiSpyware.exe and use the default settings for installation.
* An icon will be created on your desktop. Double-click that icon to launch the program.
* If asked to update the program definitions, click "Yes". If not, update the definitions before scanning by selecting "Check for Updates". (If you encounter any problems while downloading the updates, manually download and unzip them from here.)
* Under "Configuration and Preferences", click the Preferences button.
* Click the Scanning Control tab.
* Under Scanner Options make sure the following are checked (leave all others unchecked):

Close browsers before scanning.
Scan for tracking cookies.
Terminate memory threats before quarantining.

* Click the "Close" button to leave the control center screen.
* Back on the main screen, under "Scan for Harmful Software" click Scan your computer.
* On the left, make sure you check C:\Fixed Drive.
* On the right, under "Complete Scan", choose Perform Complete Scan.
* Click "Next" to start the scan. Please be patient while it scans your computer.
* After the scan is complete, a Scan Summary box will appear with potentially harmful items that were detected. Click "OK".
* Make sure everything has a checkmark next to it and click "Next".
* A notification will appear that "Quarantine and Removal is Complete". Click "OK" and then click the "Finish" button to return to the main menu.
* If asked if you want to reboot, click "Yes".

Your problem can be solved by updating the antivirus so that it can capture the virus.
