Manual detection of Phishing - Companies getting it wrong

by cifs - 8/23/08 2:25 PM

How do I detect a phishing email?
1) Check the last "Received From" field before my mail host to see if the domain matches the domain of the "From" field and content of the message.
2) Check all HTTP links to see if they point to the domain of the message content.

If (1) and more especially (2) shows up something different, I ignore the message and mark it as phishing.

Too many companies are using third party emailers which basically create fake messages which fail the above tests.

I received this (My test says phishng, but it is real) (Comments?)
My mail host is dublin.eircom.net
